You do realise dynos correct for altitude, so there's little point in mentioning it?

Chris, unless you are running slicks, VHT will actually not help. It might actually hurt your launch by causing wheel spin. Superheating street tires doesn't exactly have the same effect as it does on drag tires.

I think by now everybody is aware of what happened to Gem's unit. We still don't know a root cause but overfilling the unit with fluid is on the table and Vortech says many times this is bad.
Chris and I checked our units and we think ours are overfilled. Unfortunately its very hard to see the red fluid on the un-crosshatched portion of the dipstick. Using a towel we could see we were over. The following picture is what we drained (plus the ton we got on a towel) to get the fluid to go down enough to leave 3mm from the full mark. I think this is a safe level to be at, the fluid should expand when it gets hot. Keep in mind a full fill is 4oz. ![]() 20130410-VortechDrain-001 by VictorN07, on Flickr

Good question. No that was taken out of the 2nd fillup. We shipped our units to Vortech sans fluid so we had to fill them up when we got them back.

Gem, we appreciate you testing and bringing this to our attention. I'll take their advice into o consideration and jack up the rear and see if more comes out.
High temps to worry us too. How are you measuring them?

Geez it's felt like a lifetime since the car has been on the dyno. The Viper is out of here so I'm going to throw it up there between now and Monday.
Viper btw with just a nitrous system and 100 shot yielded 719hp to the wheels and even more torque IIRC. |

Return trip stats.
These are pump numbers 243.3 mi 8.889 gallons pumped 27.37 mpg It said 83F on the car thermostat, not very humid. Kept it a bit more chill going 75-85 this time. I think its safe to say we can still get good highway MPG numbers with this kit without having to drive it gently. Oil temp Used the torque app to keep an eye on things while I was driving back and forth. This time there isn't much science behind this text, just what I saw. Oil temp is directly proportional to engine RPM. Continuously driving at 4000 RPM the oil temperature settled at 240 F. This is about 90 MPH. When going to 100 or backing off to 80, you can see the temp go up and down relatively quickly. Since the temps change so quickly as you pickup or left off, I suspect the cooling system in this car is very efficient, even with a intercooler in the way of the AC condenser and radiator. BTW i'm still using Amsoil 0W-20 without an oil cooler. I was just speeding down the highway (90+ is a bit fast to be calling it cruising) keeping it around 4000 RPM in 6th. Therefore I still consider this to be daily driving the car. 240F is a bit hot in my opinion for daily driving so I'm prioritizing installing an oil cooler now. Just have to figure out placement I also just recieved cases of Amsoil 5W-30 for myself, @Chris@Phastek, and @Pete, so we'll be using that too to help with lubrication under engine stress.
