Of course because I said that I never get shocked, what do you think started happening? That's right, the last two times I've gotten out of the car it's shocked me. Oh well, it wasn't that bad. Enough to feel it but not one of those ones that makes you wrench up your arm in surprise.

I've tried this, but I still get shocked if I touch the window. And I'll get shocked even after driving through fog, so I don't think it's dry air that causing it. This doesn't happen when I drive my other vehicles. I was installing my backup camera the other day, and all it took was sitting in the drivers seat, and getting back out and I would get shocked. The car never moved, just sitting in my shop. Never had this happen with any other vehicle.

It's the material the seats are made from, creating static as your clothes rub against it. Getting in and out with a wriggle in between is enough to build up a static charge that will discharge at the first chance. Either slowly or quickly to zap you. When you see static being created they often use a nylon rod and rub it with something like wool. So with the man made polyester type material in the base seats and a cotton shirt or woolen jumper on a low humidity day you have the perfect combination to become a human dynamo. |

Oh, i know what causes static elecricity buildup. I've just never had it happen this bad. I just got out of my car, opened the door, reached out and touched the ground, then I grabbed the door sill, then I got out and touched the window, and threw a 1/4" arc between my index finger and the glass....interesting.
I wonder if getting the Clazzio seat covers would fix this? |

Maybe those low rolling resistance tyres generate static in the body and you earth that?
Try draping a cotton towel over the seat to eliminate that source? |

This has definitely happened to me too! weird stuff. Gotta do with the seat material I imagine. Ah small price to pay, funny when it happens to the passenger!

Hardly an Issue in New England
I think I remember this happening a couple of times each year in my other cars with cloth seats. It's so damp and wet here all the time that static electricity is almost a non-issue. Doesn't do much for me but my wife saves money not having to buy fabric softener...
