gah yes, and I wish I had noticed it before buying. It would've probably made me lean towards the scoob a little further. Jeans + these seats = static charge every time. I'm considering having leather added to remedy this plus make the interior look a little better. The front seats feel good, but the cloth texture/look just doesn't do it for me.

Good thing this car is a blast to drive! haha.

I work valet and this ALWAYS happens to me. Try to close your door with the elbow onto the window or use the knuckle of your first or even your finger. It will still shock you but it won't hurt as much.

Hold a key in your hand and touch the metal door frame as you exit. It acts as a lightning rod and discharges the static without pain.

Tap the door with your forearm or elbow. You will feel the shock but it will be much less painful.

Here's a simple technique: tap the door with your knuckle as you exit. Your knuckle is much less sensitive than your fingertip and you won't feel the zap.

Pro tips? going to try them.

I have actually never had this problem with my frs, but then again I usually use 1 finger to close the door and press on the black molding below the window. Might be worth trying since I haven't had it happen once in 2000 miles.

I'm going to look into leather seats also or just swap the original for an aftermarket.

FRS shock

Yeah this car is terrible about static, but my last car was as well. after years of it I've gotten to the point that I touch the back of my hand to the door to shock there instead of my fingertips before closing it without even thinking about it. Grabbing the A pillar to avoid the shock altogether is a much more intelligent solution.

Ok, so I definitely read the title of this thread wrong. The FR-S does "shock" me every time I get out...emotionally that is, because after a little over 2 months of ownership I still can't believe I have this car. Every time I park my car, I can't help but turn back and look at my car one more time before I get going to where I need to go.

However, back to your true question, I agree with the forum members that it is the fabric on the seats. In addition to the fabric, I think the combination of dryer/colder air with the fabric makes the possibility of static charge to building up more easily versus in warmer weather. At least it is just a temporary thing, should go away when the air becomes a bit more humid.

I'd be willing to bet the low rolling resistance tires have very little natural rubber in them and do not conduct/ground well.

keep a safety pin fastened to the inside hem of your garment ( jacket, shirt, pants whatever) that's why dry cleaners pin tags in there, keeps static at bay. Or keep a dryer sheet in your pocket not only does that keep you static free but it repels mosquitos in the summer.

my 2cents.

Hmmm... I have cloth seats in my FR-S and I've never gotten shocked getting out of the car and closing the door. I don't do anything special... just push it closed with my fingertips on the edge of the door frame. I didn't even realize this was happening to people.

I believe rubber is an isolator and will also tend to prevent any grounding from happening.
