Ok guys a little update, it seems to be a valve that is messed up not a piston. They will be replacing it friday to see if that takes care of the problem. I should have more info as well since thats all the service advisor is telling me. I should be swinging by on friday to talk with the Tech.

Hmm Im kinda surprised they aren't replacing the whole engine. Jesus I wonder how long it takes to order engine internals haven't had to do that yet.

Curious if this is going to be a warranty claim considering where the issue originated? If it is going in as a warranty claim, I have to wonder about the wisdom of this thread,

What is your rev limit with the tune? Any red-mist downshifts?

To be honest Toyota/scion doesn't seem to care if we track our cars in fact I even received and email from scion more or less encouraging me to take it to the track. My regional FTS has once that he tracks even talked to him about going to Laguna seca and he got all excited. In a way we are providing them with invaluable field testing data.

I'm a firm believer of this philosophy:

If a company isn't going to fully vet a product before release and essentially use the "early adopter" demographic as a test bed then that company should be obligated to work with them accordingly. This should apply to all companies be it vehicles or software.

Yeah Toyota/Scion doesn't have 12 years of WRX/STi warranty repairs to cloud their opinion.

Subaru will do just about anything to not cover a vehicle.

Very contrary to what I believe to be Subaru's attitude. If I recall, during the height of the WRX craze, Subaru used to hand out free promotional SCCA memberships and then troll the event rosters to see if people were actually racing their cars. If they showed with a broke car, they were denied. I think that transmissions were an issue at the time.

As to the concept of us doing the manufacturer any favours by testing their product, forget it. In order to be valid or useful, such data has to be collected in a controlled and measurable manner. Bunch of us Yahoos screaming around a track does not qualify.

From the sounds of it, I'm still banking on a VVTI issue. Either that or a broken valve spring. If its the VVTI, you may be ok with having it replaced, but if its a broken spring/stuck valve etc. then you should make sure that they check for piston damage since it's an interference motor. Good Luck!!

Mitsu did that crap too when the Evo VIII hit the shores...

It almost sound like a lifter got kicked out of position or a rocker failed or possibly a retainer....

Whatever the case maybe.. if a cylinder is down or has no compression (i don't know why else the tech would have thought there was hole in the piston) the engine needs to come out and be gone thorough IMO.
