But I'm guessing "I felt like trying out the BlahBlah solution to see how the interface was, how it worked, etc" isn't proof though correct? Can the license be saved by the end user and then reflashed to the same ECU after another solution was tested?

I've asked them to make this process easier, I'm waiting for a response The reason this type of thing is not simple is because their software was hack a number of years ago. |

So when I go bring my car in to the dealer for warranty work, and I flash back to the stock file you provided, I can't just reflash the RaceROM version once I'm done? I have to get my license key regenerated by you first? What suffices as proof? If the dealer didn't swap out an ECU or do a reflash, but I just wanted to return to stock so they don't question anything, I don't have anything from the dealer in the way of a workorder that says they swapped out or reflashed the ECU.

I understand that and understand the need for encrypting the data at rest and in transit. I just don't understand that If I were to reflash the ECU with <insert other reflash name here> to mess around with other options that I wouldn't be able to then reflash it back to ECUTek if I liked ECUTek more. I'm 100% fine with ECUTek protecting their IP. I have zero interest in their IP, but I may have an interest in trying various other options out of curiousity. This would specifically annoy me if I were a shop and wanted to test options for customers on the shop car first.

It's always funny to hear a company who infringes on others IP rights for it's only source of income to complain that the same might happen to them. It's even sillier for them to think that there is anything keeping someone who actually wanted their software from doing the same thing they did. On another note you don't see every other ECUTek tuner bashing/getting bashed constantly on this forum, this is a separate issue more related to the size of the chip John carries around and brandishes constantly. I have never seen a "tuner" act so disrespectfully to other companies/tuners/customers on such a regular basis. All of this from a guy who only exists on the interwebs...straight E-Cred YO!!! Keyboard warrior extraordinaire.

And since I only have e-cred-yo that would explain why I'm not in my PJs posting this from my bed lol I'm only responding to this because i literally just spilled my coffee from laughing so hard ! Some carry big chips - I certainly don't. I get caught up in questions like this because most of the time I'm the only vendor to respond or first to respond.

did ECUTek buy the rights to access the IP inside the ECU and extract such data?

Again, let's keep this professional. Both of you guys love to attack each other and we don't need another thread to get a massive cleanup because of it.

So at this point, does the dealer have the ability to perform a reflash of their own or is the ECU still locked to ECUTek? |

The dealer will provide documentation if they do this. I have had several people lose licenses and a few sell cars / cables...they contact me and I take care of it. Quote:
