I found a sweet app for Android today for those of you with Droids that tether your head unit to your phone for interweb access.
AutoTether: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ethering&hl=en This is such a simple app that senses your bluetooth connection from your radio and kicks your phone into tether mode automagically. And when you turn off the car, the BT connection stops and the app shuts down tether mode for you. Now I can just get in and go. My phone switches to tether for me and my android radio has internet access for pandora, etc. I have a Nexus 4 for reference. Tethering isn't locked out for me, don't know what might happen on a locked down carrier phone like a GS3 but won't hurt to try. Just thought I would share something I found useful to make my knockoff experience even better. |

Gents, what do you do with the ground/earth wire from the unit? The beatsonic wiring harness does not have a ground/earth line...

A question for those using one of these head units with your iPhone. I have an old 30GB iPod, a newer but still fairly old 160GB iPod and a 16GB iPhone 4s.
The iPod lead charges the 30GB and my iPhone 4s but doesn't seem to provide enough power to charge my 160GB. Anyone know why - it's not like it's new so shouldn't be affected by the old voltage change. If I was going to have a "non-charger" I thought it would be the newer phone. And, is there any way I can amplify or step up the voltage in the iPod cable to provide the required extra juice? I quite like the iPod app the HU came with but ideally I'd like to be able to leave the 160GB iPod in the car for that purpose. .

@Ghostmerlott I can't wait to read about how you mounted your rear camera. I too (much like nzer) would be doing a small mod on my future car for the first time. Although nzer has a step up on me with changing his oil by himself... I've got much to learn and try...

I think typically you can just ground it to a bolt nearby under the dash thats on metal, but i like my dedicated wire. |

dunno if you ended up figuring this one out yet or not, but i also use the beatsonic harness and what i did was i ran a wire from the negative terminal on the battery through the firewall and to the unit so it has a dedicated ground. I dont know if this is the proper way to go about it, but it works for me!

you can hook the ground cable to a metal piece, see if you can locate a convenient metal bolt around the dash.

I've seen pictures of a dedicated ground bolt located in the fuse box near the driver's left leg (LHD models so dunno about Aussi spec). I saw those pics in a DIY thread about installing Dash cams.

Hope you guys can clear two things out for me as I think the questions are Android related and common with the units that you guys are using:
-1- the Ekoore unit can be ordered with a OBD2 usb cable as the Elija S2 is Torque compatible. However, will Torque also work with a OBD2 bluetooth connector instead of the USB cable? -2- as the unit comes without any offline navigation software + maps, I assume pressing the NAVI/GPS hardware button will open Google Maps. Is it possible to re-address the NAVI/GPS button to any aftermarket navigation software I install later on? |
