Sadly, I'm concerned about fuel consumption unless they have a gas station somewhere along that route (memory is failing me).

No gas stations until you get to 101 or Guerneville but I made it there and back on one tank with some left over.

That section has been walled off to a single lane even when we did our drive a few weeks ago. Not sure why they decided to close the whole thing.

I was actually thinking about driving up to Palo Alto-ish on Saturday and trying out the roads toward the hills west of 280.

Probably nothing too crazy but just to check things out and do a nice long drive.

Highway 49 is about 30 minutes from Sacramento, definitely a fun drive and it's clear.

Highway 84 is nice but has a lot of traffic if you don't show up early. I was there last weekend and there's a section that's a single lane for both directions since one side of the road washed away.
