I won't make the full trip to Minden, NV with the roadsters, but I am going with them up the hill a bit and will take an interesting way back to the Central Valley. I am planning on heading through Mariposa on HWY 49 on the way back, hopefully it may draw a few drivers from the south!

MEET UP at the Chevron on Yosemite Blvd (Near Hunts cannery/Sconza chocolates) in OAKDALE, CA at 8:30AM. We take off soon after 9:00AM, and we'll just cruise with the classic Datsuns until we peel off and head back to town and stretch the legs a bit every so often.

Come on up/over/out to Oakdale Saturday, Sept 12 and enjoy the ride, old and new! We had a blast last year!

Too bad it wasn't this weekend, I would have been able to join you guys. As much as I love the driving roads it the bay, I really miss the sierras.

Sounds fun! Any more info on the route? How many cars did you have last year?

We had 14 cars altogether at the start last year, about 10 made it to Minden for overnight (not happening for me this year) 7/7 Twins/Datsuns.

We usually head up along 120, 108, or 4 and head back on another the day after.

THIS year I will split off from the group (maybe around Sonora, depending upon route) and head back along the foothill backroads to Mariposa or so before heading north to home in Modesto. We could stop for a quick break or whathaveyou along the way.

I will have a better route once I confirm the Datsun route from the leader later this week!

Thinking about maybe doing a Drive down Mines Rd. from Livermore side sometime soon. Havent been down there before. I heard that the road coming from San Jose is a lot worse than the road from Livermore. How crowded is that road normally? Is it a good road to drive down or is it crowded? Has anyone gone during the week or weekend and when is it best to go? Thanks!

A group recently did that drive about a month ago and reported lots of gravel (I guess the road is being repaved), so I would suggest avoiding the south segment all together. I would suggest you do mines until the junction and either turn back around or make a left on Del Puerto canyon rd.

Mines is usually full of cyclists during the weekends, so its probably best to do it during the week.

Agree, but if you go early enough in the morning (like before 8AM) you can usually get the road to yourself on weekends too.
Also be warned if you've never been to Mines -- the road narrows down to almost one lane for several miles and you have to be careful of oncoming traffic around the blind corners.

Thanks for the heads up. I want to set up a drive with a couple of friends and i'll also post the information here when I have it set up and anyone is welcome to come.

I'm debating rolling out of Alameda at 6:30am tomorrow morning and doing either a Pinehurst -> Redwood -> Palomares -> Sunol Super Stop 94 octane OR Mines Rd to Junction drive.

Someone talk me out of it.

Anyone in SSF or Peninsula want to caravan over to the Dublin meet tonight?

I'll stop at McDonalds parking lot in Foster City a lil before 7PM for anyone who wants to join me across the San Mateo bridge. It's an easy exit right before crossing over the bridge and traffic should be minimal by then ~ 30 mins.

See ya when I see ya.

OK, drive is on for tomorrow morning. Meeting up at 6:45am sharp in the Starbucks parking lot on Atlantic and Webster in Alameda. We'll roll out promptly at 6:55am and do Pinehurst and Redwood and then briefly stop at the Peets in Castro Valley and determine who wants to continue on to do Palomares.

I will get off work around 6:45pm in Foster City, so I'll try to make it over there and join you. Might have another friend in an MR2 join as well.
