86mm stroke and 7500 rpm puts the mean piston speed ~4200 ft/min which is highish for 'stock' Toyota or Subaru rods, I think. 2JZ also had 86mm stroke and was limited to under 7k I believe.

But if they over-built the rods intending for more revs, who knows?
Yeah, it all comes down to how strong the bottom end of the engine is. The Honda k20 engine is an 86x86 engine too and people have spun those engines to 9k+ with cams and supporting valve train. Who knows....

Subaru engines aren't known for spinning like Honda engines.

2JZ's can handle some more revs than their limit stock, too (nowhere near 9k though, lol). Not too sure about the Subaru motors for piston speed as they also tend to have a shorter stroke which is better for revs (less piston speed for same rpm).

Plus it's still a bit vague how much of a 'tuner' platform this is. Do they just mean the Scion dealer installed bolt-ons and it's built to a price point? Or did they over-build this thing like the old-days and it's reliable for 8.5k on factory rods/bearings as soon as it can breathe? (I can dream.)

Until some shop opens this one up and has a look at the rods, or blows one up on the dyno we can't really say.

So many unknowns... too much waiting for info, still...

If this car is as fun as it sounds like it will be, I have no problems leaving it stock. Fun to drive = fun to drive. That is what I care about most.

What's the JDM STI go up to stock? Over 8k?

With the EJ20 motor's 75mm stroke, its mean piston speed at 8500 rpm is less than the FA20 motor at 7400 rpm. So probably less stress on the bottom end at higher revs (but pistons are bigger and maybe heavier so a little extra there).

Yup, lil over 8k for JDM STI. JDM WRX iirc was around 7k

Anyone else interested in seeing car spin to 8k? I wonder if that's something some tuners will do...

If this car can free rev to 7.5k id love to see this car make power up to 9k.

I dont think iv felt anything so beautiful when i ran a rx8 to 9k or a CTR to 9k.

The only other car i want to drive reving high other than the BRZ/86, is a Mines R34 GTR (i think redline is like 10.5-11k.

Ifawishes: I was referring to the opening statement in the thread (see monday or tues):

BRZ STI NA with more power

i just got a new information today about the BRZ STI -
no turbo! - it will be the same FA engine but with more power -
hopefully with some more engine displacement.

i will get more news about engine, suspension, brakes and more monday or tuesday...
