Haha....wow. My insurence agent already knew about it surprizingly. These guys are prepped for every single new or redesigned vehicle that comes to market. Hoping the coverage price doesn't skyrocket soon with all the hooners buying them.

The Mid-Valley area (outside Weslaco). Moved back here from a six-year stint in Houston. I frikkin' hate the Valley..
Rocks are the least of my problems. Scrap metal on the expressway is a constant worry. My mom and I almost got in a major accident last March due to a piece that annihilated the driver side-rear tire on her Lincoln. Almost got side swiped twice trying to get to safety (emergency lights on) The wheel managed to hold the weight of the car easily. I've been driving on the passing lane constantly since then.
People moan and b*tch about Houston traffic (I-45 and 610 Westbound and Pasadena Parkway) are the only roads I had issues with. But they never had consistant hazards like all the roads down here. And pray whoever hits you drives away; the less financially secure will hit you and siphon money via your insurance and corrupt doctors.
South Texas; aka North Mexico/hell. Stay away from this awful place. (For the record, I'm Latina. Every terrible Mexican stereotype is found here. Not being racist..)

Yep. It's an in-joke here in Texas that Houston is a stinky hellhole. H-Town is a frikkin' paradise compared to here. Even East Side (Stinkadena lol) would be a step up.

Plus the gas is cheap and excellent quality. Almost worth dealing with the pollution for. And the car scene...God I miss that the most.

Whats considered cheap? Ga is running about $3.79 what I paid the other day. South Carolina is always cheaper than Ga though...

Ouch...

I have had bad luck with windshields and new vehicles..

My 2010 Camaro, and my 2010 Raptor both got nailed within the first couple months of ownership.

Camaro had to be replaced.. Cost was over a grand.. But was covered under insurance ($300 deductible).

Raptor was not as bad, I was hoping for a full replacement again with the detuctible, but the glass guy said it was not bad enough to replace.. And so it was repaired on the spot and cost... $20 bucks or something?

The downside, is that it's still visible, and it's right infront of my face whenever I drive. It's small but... annoying.

I'd stick with OEM personally... Don't want to deal with fitment issues down the road or take a chance on cheap materials.

OEM products are probably more likely to adhere to safety standards ? But less likely to have fitment issues for sure, and seems like it would just be overall less of a hassle.

IMHO I'd go with whatever is the SAFEST option if possible. Sucks losing money, but it would suck more to regret cheaping out on it later on when you need the windshield to do it's job properly.

Right now, about 3.20 is considered a deal. The lowest gas locally is running at 3.29 regular/3.49 premium(93 octane) where I go (Sam's Club ftw).

(Cue the haters in 3. 2..1..)

This glass is garbage. I've got a large scratch, and very small pit on my glass within the first 2 months of owning the car. It seems pretty weak to me.

Unfortunately, I think due to how low the car is as well as the shape... windshield issues come with the territory.

Can minimize this by increasing the distance between you and the cars ahead of you... Avoid driving in lanes that have a wall or divider on your side to avoid bouncing rocks. And avoid driving on the inner lane in situations where you're travelling at high speeds with oncoming traffic in the lane right next to yours.

And generally just an increased awareness of road surfaces.

Unfortunately, unless someone goes around and cleans up all the rocks...chips in paint and windshields are going to happen. And more so on lower vehicles.

Only other useful tip, would be to... get a dash cam or make note of the vehicle type & license plate that tossed the rock at you. Your insurance might make the claim against their insurance if they can verify within a reasonabl doubt that the person was in the area you made the claim at the same time.

I don't know how they verify this or how likely they are to accept the claim in that fashion. I haven't tried it yet, but both times I had windshield claims I was asked if I could provide a plate # for the car that threw the rock at me.

As well as the one time a car infront of me launched a chunk of metal at my car which ripped up the entire side from the front wheel well all the way to the rear panel.

Unfortunately, I didn't have a plate # any of these times.

I'm actually a pretty good (abeit paranoid) driver. I never have my phone on my person in the car, always check my tires (super cautious on that) and stay more than three car lengths if possible at high speed situations.

Even if the oncoming car did purposely launch the rock; there would be little to no chance to get the person to cover my damages. Texas unfortunately allows for minimum liability coverage. Plus there's a good chance the other car could have wrong title info. (lots of fraud and car auction bought cars are hot here.) So either way, I'd still have to arrange and cover repairs myself.
