Thank our neighbor from the other side of the border.
I had to get my windshield inspected first. There is actually a business I went to that only does windshield inspection for insurance companies. I guess there is enough fraud to pay for it.

So my guy showed up this morning and couldnt do the work. Turns out he only had the glass but it requires a dealer moulding that he didnt have. Its attached to the glass and fills in the gap around it. They have to cut through ours to put the replacement on.

That definitely will require a new windshield.

Thanks. Might as well. I'm seriously hoping I can get more resistant glass. He's staying in the garage until then.

I actually went through the same road this morning (other car). Nothing this time.

Here's a question, I with the threads I've seen on dealers not having or being able to locate certain parts for the car, I wonder if the windshields are readily available? Moreover, are the non-Toyota/Suburu 'generics' available yet to the glass dealers?

Probably. In my case in particular, I can't even find the bracket in the full manual here.

Nope. From what I gather, it's a three week to a two month wait. Toyota and Subaru really should of thought ahead and had parts and components available from launch and not assume every owner was going to mod this asap.
Granted it's still a limited car, but sh*t happens. More often to sports cars.

All these cracked windshield stories have me wondering if the replacement should be an aftermarket piece rather than an original.

Supposedly the original glass is thinner than most in an attempt to keep the weight down(read that here). Clearly this was a mistake on Subaru's part since we see so many cases of cracks.

Would an aftermarket window copy the extra thinness of the original?

Normally I would say no. The cheaper ones barely get the shape of windshields right. However, as popular as this car will be, I bet a lot of companies will have a version and I would imagine at least one would be to spec. For better or worse...

My windshield got a big chip on it the first day it snowed in the DC area. It was either a huge pebble that flew low over my hood and slammed a dent with the size of a quarter... then it spread. Called my insurance (on a Friday) and had an OEM put on exactly a week after. The issue isn't that the parts are unavailable, the issue is that the people do not know anything about this car. I helped the company who was replacing my windshield order one. They actually thought I meant scion tC when I mentioned that it was a coupe.
