The reason for a higher rev limit is, assuming the engine can breath at the desired rpm:

HP=(T*RPM)/5252

an engine that makes 145lbft at 6,000 rpm makes 165 hp at 6,000 rpm
an engine that makes 145lbft at 8,000 rpm makes 220 hp at 8,000 rpm

if you can carry the torque the deeper you rev the more power you can make.

If the engine can't breath then the only reason is, as others have said, so you can hold a gear longer on track or at a drag strip.

Has anyone noticed a difference or improvement I should say when hitting above 6K rpm when switching to a higher quality oil. I'm finished with the free oil changes from dealer so motul or similar is going into engine next.

My driving style has evolved into holding my shifts longer and generally loitering in the >6K rpm range. One of the nice things about having a stock exhaust, and stock everything, is that I can realistically drive this way on the street without raising too much commotion.

A quick tally of the cars I consider close to be the Twins competition -

BRZ/GT86/FR-S - 205Nm @ 6.4-6.6krpm/147kW @ 7krpm
MX5 2.0i - 188Nm @ 5krpm/118kW @ 7krpm
RCZ 200 - 275Nm @ 1.77krpm/147kW @ 5.8krpm
SLK 250 - 310Nm @ 2-4.3krpm/150kW @ 5.5krpm
Z4 20i - 270Nm @ 1.25-4.5krm/135kW @ 5-6.25krpm
TT 2.0TFSI - 370Nm @ 1.6-4.3krpm/169kW @ 4.5-6.2krpm

If we look at factory figures with one exception every other car makes peek power bellow the Twins peek torque. In relative terms I think that makes a high revving engine.
