i want to boost my frs so bad have a supra as well all the money is going into. So tempting to pull the jz and put it in the frs but the fa20 is a great motor to boost!

That would be awesome just to hear the wonderful sound of that 9000rpm flatplane Ferrari V8.

Had a ~2000s eclipse speed up to drive next to me for a while. I had cruise set to 75 and it kept speeding up and slowing down next to me, with the two dudes staring into my car the whole time.

Whatever, they aren't doing anything to me.

We're on a state route with a speed limit of 65 and there are some stoplights. We got stopped and at the green I decided to punch it a little and ended up getting 4-5 lengths ahead and then dialed it back once I hit 80.

It was fun... After that they really didn't screw with me but I let them in front of me and I rabbited them for a few miles before they turned off.
Oh, the joys of late night drives.

My daily commute for the past 12 years, is made up of part numb freeways and part 30-50mph canyon carving. In the past month alone, I have encountered two scenarios, both of which I was behind the car which was slowed down by a slower vehicle in front who eventually made a turn off the road. In the first, was a SL500 which looks slightly modded which surprised me by taking off rapidly. Based on my experience with them, I only known them to be soft, willowy around corners and made for the senior crowd. Well, whatever mod this dude has, I just cannot keep up even with me slightly sideways in some corners. By the end of the road at the intersection some 3 miles down, he was already long gone.

In the 2nd situation, it was same setup. As soon as the truck ahead of us made a right turn, the dusty and seemingly stock looking 330ci in front of me floored it. I tried to keep up but he was opening up wider and wider by every stretch. I would like to think that he has stuff flying everywhere in his car with all the intense and hard left and right turns. But so did I. At some point I decided it was enough as I don't relish being one of the undiscovered corpses at the bottom of the ravine after one of the photo-op oversteered moves.

So what gives? I looked up the 86's specs. It says 91g in R&T which is more than the SL or the 3 series. While the 86 is super fun to drive and a great handler, does its lack of ultimate power really cripple it even in the mountains? I am on my stock tires but would a tire upgrade make a huge enough difference to least keep up with spirited encounters in the hills?

Man I hate when people try to race me, usually their cars are much slower and I just pretend like I don't see them. What's up with all of the 13/14 second cars thinking they're fast?

There's no way an RB25 240 will ever lose or even just barely beat a stock FR-S. I just barely beat one the other day and I'm sitting around 350whp....

A tire upgrade would make a big difference, but the power differential could also definitely be part of it for the SL at least. As for the 3 series? Never underestimate the canyon-carving potential of a well-driven 3 series. They've been rated among the best handling cars in the world for a long time for a reason. Also, there's no reason to assume that they are on the same tires that R&T tested them on, and tires make a huge difference to cornering limits. The ones on the FR-S/BRZ stock aren't terribly sticky, so if you want to go fast up a canyon (rather than go sideways up a canyon), you'd probably be best served by different tires.

This. The Prius tires were used because they can break traction for drifting. Tire upgrade is one of the best upgrades you can do for our cars if you want more traction and look how improved the skidpad, and slalom are improved (along with lap times on a track) just by changing out the stock tires:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/special-...transformation

The only real downside is that it will be harder to break traction if you like sliding the back out..

Agreed, my friends sr20 240 (260ish whp/gutted) will beat a stock sti no problem. No way an frs will walk or creep on an rb25.

I'm not surprised at your encounter with the Bimmer 3. I'm currently driving a 325i, factory sport package (wider tires and stiffer suspension), while waiting for my BRZ and it grips like a beast. I've tried sliding the tail out with the e-brake in the rain to no success. Granted, it's not that powerful either but I can take canyon curves at pretty high speed with no shortage of confidence.

I beat one but as I mentioned his car is off a tooth or 2..my car is all stock and I now its not very fast at all lol but i pulled away by a fender or two on both the rb25 s14 and the is300 with full exhaust and cold air intake. I might add both cars are pretty exhausted with a good amount of mileage on them! wish my buddy would have got a video as he watched the race from a few cars back but he couldn't keep up in his tc2. Driver mod ftw I guess and or my car was built by ninjas haha

I will add also that the is300 and the rb25 240 both are pretty even when they race Ive seen them run more than a few times lol I actually was watching there race when I kept creeping on them so I hopped in a lane and gave it a try.
