So I get mad cause that's just disrespectful, go in the HOV lane and slow down beside him to see why he did that, and as I pull up, he's already giving me the finger! Big City...It rarely happens in smaller communities or rural areas.

People can not cope with other people not acting the same (dumb) way they would.

How dare you don't stop and go like all the normal drivers?!

Edit: I do the same on the rare occasions that I take the BRZ to work, and it's the same every time. Leave an opening, and some a**hat takes the opportunity to dart in.
Even if I stop at a green light because I would jam the intersection if I would try to pass, someone starts to honk or even overtakes, just to jam the intersection himself.

People...

Or you could have just let him fill the gap, backed off and let him go. Just sounds like a normal day in traffic to me and your retaliatory action probably pissed him off more than he bothered you. There have always been people that want that front space and are rude while driving it isn't new.

If you're one of those people with a really big personal space bubble, the left lane probably isn't the place for you.

You can't let people like that go. They need to understand that every time they do that, it's gonna end up unpleasant. Need to make sure he's left nice and sour.

It was two car lengths at most. To the left is an HOV lane. To the right is an even slower moving rush hour lane. I'm keeping up with the traffic. The car in front of me is not increasing distance.

Are these people like obsessive compulsive or something? Why are they always so obsessed about gaps. There's literally nowhere to go lol. In fact, it's actually safer in case some malarkey goes down in one of the next lanes, they can duck into the space I left. Ditto for other people merging. Instead of keeping it super tight at all times, we should maintain a car length so if someone wants to merge - they can do it, instead of indicating forever and creating congestion.

Well, it won't actually help with the amount of time it takes to get somewhere to use the space less effciently. Except in that it might prevent an accident. It is safer to leave more space, don't get me wrong, but let's be real if you leave an opportunity someone is going to take it eventually.

You will never leave them sour it just turns you into the catalyst for issues.

If I was batman, I'd be driving a lamborghini and T-boning pickup trucks lol

And of course he's sour, otherwise he wouldn't be giving me the finger hehehehehe

Honestly I ignore 99% of idiocy that happens to me as (believe it or not) I'm a very friendly and polite driver. Maybe that's why that overtly disrespectful move was the straw that broke the camel's back. Manners are important. Coward wouldn't do that in a physical line up, but he feels free to do it in his car. I gave him a little big of negative reinforcement in hopes that'll dissuade him from acting like a **** next time. These people are like pets, need to put their nose in the poop.

lol

okay but just to re-iterate, this guy was behind me in the same lane as me, sharply turned into a lane he's not supposed to be in, at a place he's not supposed to do it, and cuts me off and goes in front of me. In a race it would be equivalent to cutting a corner through the grass to overtake and subsequently getting ejected from the race.
