If you don't have the money for coils, get springs for now, save up until the stock struts blow out and/or change out before they do.

I'm thinking around 10k mile on springs = 6 ~ 8 months (about 1500miles/month)

Save $250 a month, $1500 cash for coils or after market struts.

These guys are correct, springs/struts > shitty coils.

I had the luxury of putting in the Eibach Sportline springs at my buddy's garage, so no labor cost for me. Changing wheel/thinner rubber + springs, yes it will make the ride harsher but I kinda enjoy that since I am a sick bastard so no prob with me.

The cheapest way to have a decent look and stance would be lowering springs/hub centric high quality spacers for front and rear, plasti dip that mother fucker black, and you got a cheap mans flush lowered car with black rims. good at least for 6 months to save up for real shit.

As with most things in life there is a range from crap to great and you can't lump everything in the same category together.

A coilover (in today's terms) is simply a shock with a height adjustable spring perch. That's it. The shock itself can be inconsistent, fade easily, have crappy forces, and the spring can just be terrible too. Or they can be pretty good.

The lower end coilovers sacrifice the quality of the shock valving in exchange for height adjustablity and sometimes knobs that may or may not do what you want. If your priorities are to go real low for cheap, this may be okay because the lower end coilovers are fine for that.

With a Koni + good spring package, you get a quality shock absorber with good valving....which is a pretty big piece of the puzzle when it comes to actual handling and ride. Just don't get a spring that lowers too far.

Also, the OEM shocks are not that bad. They do a pretty good job for a factory shock and have a little headroom for firmer springs (just don't go too low). Konis are better for sure and a worthwhile upgrade for a little more performance and control. Still can't slam the car though.

I put Hotchkis springs on mine. It's perfect. Handles like a dream and not really rough at all. I'll probably change to Koni's or Bilsteins when the factory struts blow. I never scrape on anything.

Here's mine on Eibach's which is about 30mm drop. They're not off the shelf springs though, they're made specifically for Litchfield.

I love them and feel just as comfy as OEM.

im going for modest drop - and have decided to go with the new SWIFT. if that helps. mostly for looks but i really dont want to take away from the stock suspension or feel - i do alot of canyon runs and i am happy with it today ... everyone says thats improved . i guess it depends on who u talk to and what ur trying to do.

I have some eibach pro springs waiting to go on my car before delivery. I originally chose springs because I was planning on the car being a daily driver, I don't want to lower it too far. I have since had a change of plans and it will now be a summer only car, so I may consider coilovers down the road if I can save my pennies. (coilovers don't like the salt and who knows what else is spread on the roads here in the winter)

I chose the springs for a mild drop and wanted to retain the stock struts. Perhaps I will get a chance to take a ride in an frs or brz with coilovers to decide if I like the ride before I spend that kinda $

I wasn't planning on new struts yet but that's a question - I wonder if they wear differently if u go the 'spring' route ..? coilovers might be overkill for what im going for.
