Some people are "lay-downs", though. Not everyone wants to negotiate price. For some, it's a hassle-free way of saving some dough. From a seller's perspective, those are great programs because it makes for a painless transaction. The buyers feel like they've gotten a great deal, and we don't get ground down to almost cost on our cars. Both parties are happy.

I would see how much I could get one new using a VIP buying program. There are quite a few out there. USAA, IMBA, Costco, etc. Take that quote and try to talk this dealer down as far as possible. Don't be afraid to insult them with a lowball offer, they'd do the same to you. See what you can get.

Hmmmm. I could tell the dealer that they could sell me a car now at 2% off or I'll come back in 6 months. And maybe check out multiple dealers and see if one will sell me a new Premium for less then a slightly used Limited. It won't hurt to ask.

Another thing he told me that was quite a surprise is they have an agreement with USAA, Costco and others. That agreement is that once you mention one of those programs and they give you the agreed price under the guidelines of that program they can not negotiate with you any further. It then becomes a take-it-or-leave-it deal.
Hmm, that's interesting. I've negotiated 3 new cars myself and used USAA once. I thought it was nice to just be able to walk in and get a decent price. I mean, I used the USAA price quote to try and negotiate with dealers that weren't a part of the USAA program (therefore not under any agreements) and they couldn't even match the price. My USAA price had me driving 100 miles away and I hit up 3-4 dealers closer and nobody could even match the price. I dunno, that's just my one experience with it though. Good to see another perspective on it though.
