You're mistaken. I wasn't trying to discredit Subaru, I was trying to discredit this statement which is just flat out not true. I like Subaru regardless of their involvement in motorsports.

And in answer to this, no a Scion isn't a Lexus but a Lexus is a Toyota, no matter how you cut it. And a Scion is a Toyota, no matter how you cut it. All of the people on here saying things like "because Scion" are only proving Toyota right in that American consumers are retarded.

Scion also has a pro rally team. Google Andrew Comrie-Picard.

I don't think there's a right or wrong as far as whether the Scion branding should play a role in deciding which route you want to go, but to say that those who don't want the FR-S just because they refused to own a Scion reinforces that Americans consumers are retarded is a little silly.

I don't necessarily agree with the badge on the hood and trunklid dictating on whether or not to buy a car (as I'd personally prefer the BRZ, but not because it has a Subaru badge and not a Scion one), but I think that if the Scion FR-S were 100% identical to the Toyota GT-86 sold overseas other than the emblems, perhaps people would be singing a different tune about such a variant. Whether it was to keep the MSRP down or to fit into the Scion mold (or both), the current FR-S in its one and only trim level has an interior (and some exterior bits like the headlights) that are a bit of a downgrade from the common GT-86, which isn't bad at all. And I think when people see that, it's associated with the Scion brand in their minds, hence their reasoning. If it was basically a Scion-branded FT-86 with no changes (or at least offered a trim level that matched the GT-86 and BRZ Premium), then you'd have a lot fewer people brushing the FR-S aside. (I do realize that there will be that Series 10 or whatever they are calling it that is basically what I described, so we'll see how that goes, assuming its MSRP isn't an unreasonable increase above what the FR-S costs.)

Well I suppose we could probably argue this for hours on end and I would love to over beers or something if we ever meet but...

The original point is that people can have all the reasons they want to buy a BRZ over the FR-S except the reason that Subaru has a bigger involvement in Motorsports because that is just plain false.

I agree with most of your points, but pricing has already been released. $27425 for M/T and $28675 for A/T excluding destination.

No doubt. And that's one of the main reasons why I didn't get an FR-S. Having them heated with heated mirrors were the others.

I want to see the -10 headlights in person, I may try to make a trade for my brz lights.

I haven't seen them in person either, but I still like the BRZ ones better for now. The GT-86 ones just look too cluttered to me.

I coulda bought either, its not the 2 grand difference that gonna sway the decision point.. and the added niceties are just that, nice to have. The FR-S to me just looks better.. I decided on the FR-s because of the cleaner more minimalist lines. I just can[t get over the front 'fascia' that the BRZ comes with.

This is a modders platform anyways, people are replacing stuff the day they get the car.. so its not the extra bum thermostat that going to make or break it.

The 7 year warranty is nice tho.

No Scion here, but Toyota as a brand lost me a long time ago. Ive always loved Subaru's and my last car was a 2001 JDM Subaru WRX STi V7.

The fact Toyota NZ were bringing in 100 cars and Subaru NZ only 12 was a factor. Our local club has +40 86 owners and I am the only BRZ owner.

When I started hearing about the difference in suspension settings I was more convinced - coming from an STi I am mad keen on GRIP, not going sideways, so that was a key factor for me. In hindsight the differences are probably so miniscule it doesnt matter (esp since I swapped it all out anyway) and more a marketing ploy for those AWD fans like me, but hey it worked!

I preferred the Toyota/Scion front bumper but not the instrument binnacle and as I spend more time looking at the Tach it helped me go Subaru.

Funny thing is I get my all my modification work from the local Toyota dealer as they are the largest aftermarket performance retailer in the Southern Hemisphere and provide great service and support to the the ZN6/ZC6 brigade.
