That 5th gear brz episode was pretty cool.
I think any comments against either brz / 86 owners should be taken in the spirit of sibling jesting - ie I can say my brother is a bit of a **** but will get mad if anyone else says it . At the end of the day your choice boils down to dealership availability and brand loyalty. The cars are identical and roll of the same factory floor so saying one is inherently better than the other is just silly. I for one welcome our BRZ brethren into the "sideways and smiling" fold, and will give them the secret "86 salute" when I see them on the road. |

Interestingly enough we are oddly understanding (and more trivial) about each others choices. Each to their own as at the end of the day, they both came out of the same factory, they both have the same engine and drivetrain, and ultimately they are both great cars.
![]() @GavinAnt - grab the latest Accelerate magazine with Hennie Groenewald drifting a BRZ at Zwartkops. http://www.carmag.co.za/galleries/su...hootout-2013/# Subaru exhaust sounds good! ![]() But with the limited number of both of them coming we will all be driving something special and I think it will be (and should be!) down to friendly banter rather than all out conflict. |

Exactly. Having lots of fun with my mate in the scooby club telling him why the BRZ is rubbish but the 86 is brilliant
![]() He has driven both and is convinced the BRZ is better, but then again he's stupid!

I have to confess, I've got my name on both 86 & BRZ waiting lists, and wanted an exhaust & the aero fin & kinda like the maintenance plan, so the extra money doesn't worry me...
The dealer rating was a more 'scientific' decider for me than the now famous 'eeny, meene, miny, mo' test! In thecpast, Toyota did not give me the support I would have liked on the one and only problem I've had with my '06 Prado too... |

Think SA is one of the only countries where the BRZ costs quite a lot more than the 86~ and with say 80k more, one can make their 86 a lot more than what a "std" BRZ is. Another factor for me was the heritage and purpose of this car which is more Toyo than Subaru ~ Remember its not about the money, its about sending a message!!

if they were the same price and the same availability, i'd go for the BRZ simply b/c i have more faith in Subaru dealers and their competence when it comes to maintenance...
As it is though, I'd take the 86.. |

My take is if you a scubaru fan, you will take the brz. If you grew up with yotas, you will take the 86. Both handle the same, just sound a bit different.
A person thats unfamiliar to both, will take the 86 simply because of marketing exposure. |
