I know what you're talking about, but you're not always guaranteed the claim. They're a business just like any other insurance company.

That's why you read the policy before you buy it. They can't just make things up after you crash.

I'm personally completely comfortable passing and being passed anywhere on track, including hairpins. You get comfortable with it quickly if you ever do wheel to wheel racing.
I've seen you drive, i understand why you're confident.

But [regarding the OP]i'm pretty comfortable with driving my car at HPDE. If the engine blows or something, the car can sit while i arrange to get a new part. BIR is where i go, and it's a very safe track and doesn't have many tire walls or areas where you'd smash into anything. There is a lot of open field/grass around it. So my car likely wouldn't be crashed and totalled, but would more likely have some kind of problem like a dropped valve or something like that.

I have a lien on mine. But again, HPDE insurance is there for a reason. Mine will be in track 3 days within the next 60 days....

Interesting question. I (well, actually my wife) has, but not with a big $ left on the payoff. Lien holders may not be to excited about poeple puting their cars into uninsured "situations"... Shhhhh....the standard loan agreements may start saying you can't.....just like regular insurance policies several years back.......

in the states you guys have the whole HPDE thing and graduated licensing, as far as i know people that start out fresh have to ride with instructors for a year before they can go out by themselves.

we have a similar system, other clubs/organizers don't

choose where you wish to play

* for instance, at all of our events passing is point by and only at designated areas (such as straights). No racing for corners or diving bombing. If our marshals see you breaking this rule or another driver reports you for such reckless behavior, your day is over and we send you home. We state this explicitly at each drivers meeting early in the morning and we make sure everyone attends the driver's meeting.

^^ This. We will move people down a group if they are just too slow and throw an instructor in the car with them. If they are being stupid, they are done. Actually if they go off in a session (4 off) that's the end of their session, if it's the end anyways, they lose the next session as well. If they do it again, they get to take a break for the rest of the day.

This stuff isn't hard but track days have to be run with an iron fist when it comes to safety items.

On a side note, I noticed some huge holes and dips at Willow springs and Streets of willows. I can imagine if you hit those when you're going sideways you're going to flip..

I just go with "always drive within your limits". It's the instructor's responsibility to teach the novices what those limits are, and quickly.

Approx agreed value (within reason) minus ded. Track damage should be covered by the organizers insurance. Most tracks require it. Some groups will pass that along to the participant, some won't. We never do, then again no track has EVER asked us to pay for damage anyways, VIR, ACC, etc.. we had damage at all of them but were never asked to repair it that I'm aware of.

Obviously no insurance covers gross negligence, which basically has to be proven in lawsuits. The ferrari lawsuit is a prime example, TONS of gross negligence and some big name companies willing to pay to eliminate the lawsuit didn't hurt either.

I've personally told my family to NEVER even consider suing if something happened to me on track as a result of unintended circumstances. I'm taking a risk, I know I could pass away doing what I enjoy doing. That's a risk I'm taking. Only in the case of gross/egregious negligence should there be a lawsuit IMHO.

I'm not that good, I just don't drive 10/10th. @CSG Mike drives harder than I do

The BRZ/FRS also makes one confident. I drove the race car at Sebring two weekends ago.. holy crap the BRZ made me forget what it's like to drive a car with zero brake feel, bad modulation (and no ABS), old skinny tires, etc lol

One could argue that if you are that likely to be too short to pay for your car note you really shouldn't be tracking the car at all.

Not saying it's for rich folks only, but some financial responsibility is needed

Well I guess in your case don't get in a accident on the street, even though you have specific insurance just for that exact thing they are businesses and will deny your claim.

Naw,you just need lots of cheap cars so when you wreck one you can just laugh and say, oh well.

I've got $3500 in my DD miata I brought to ITR expo. That's not a whole lotta money in the scheme of things.

But yes, I do agree to some extent. At the same time, I would never pay 2x the amount of an event to be covered by insurance for it. Id just the money from entry fees and insurance to pay off my car in 1/2 the time and track it then.
