If you took out the upper speakers I think they would be in about the right place no? Might be part of the reason they put them there.

The dumbest thing about roll cages that bend around the dash is that most racing governing bodies won't allow them as they really compromise the ability of the cage to not deform when the car rolls, and B. you shouldn't have any cage unless you're wearing a helmet so they're worthless on the track and worthless on the street, so why bother?

I just realized something. How can the disk brakes be 16 and 15 inches? The rim itself is 16". Was there some translation error?

They size the brakes over there by the size of the wheel that can fit over them.

Ah ok. Thanks for clarifying. I know the lower spec JDM models have ventilated fronts and solid rears. The US gets ventilated fronts and rears. It appears that this JDM RA model gets the same brakes as the USDM model.

yeah we know its not an STI, we just went on a tangent on the logo and how its changed.

As far as the cage and harness mounts (which i cant see on the pictures), iv seen plenty of Overkill to really nice to passable setups. As long as they are FIA approved that's all that really matters. FIA has done some pretty extensive research on proper racing gear and setups, and updated constantly for strict guidelines. Even if the cage and harness points are the meet only the bare minimum requirements of safety per FIA rules, they are still very reliable.

You may find that the mount angle is wrong, and the harness mounts are crap, and the cage is crap, and you probably have more experience than me in building such systems or working on pit with a crew, or whatever and thats cool, but its really hard to see your points.

Id love to agree with you if you found evidence that the setup on the RA doesn't meet FIA specs, or wont offer the driver substantial safety during HPDE.

You were saying something about STI... sorry, I was too busy seeing "STI" license plate & "STI Performance" sticker

Yes, we know it's not Subaru BRZ STI. It's Off-topic stuff we were debating

On-topic, one thing that confuse me is, in the PDF file, BRZ RA Racing package weight 1450kg (reference: PDF) which equal to 3196lbs (btw, that's w all the fluids in)... roll cage weight down that much?!?!?!

Shoulder belts must run from the shoulders horizontally or down, at no more than a 20° angle. LINK FROM SCHROTH
AND tillet From the FIA guidelines.
see below.. that looks like about a 45 degree angle.. too much!

Windscreen pillar reinforcement part 253-15
from http://www.fia.com/sites/default/fil...%282013%29.pdf
Cars homologated as from 01.01.2006 only :
It must be fitted on each side of the front rollbar if dimension
"A" is greater than 200 mm (Drawing 253-15).
It may be bent on condition that it is straight in side view and
that the angle of the bend does not exceed 20°.
Its upper end must be less than 100 mm from the junction
between the front (lateral) rollbar and the longitudinal
(transverse) member (see Drawing 253-52 for the
measurement).
Its lower end must be less than 100 mm from the (front)
mounting foot of front (lateral) rollbar

Ain't none of that shit FIA legal.

Sorry, took me awhile, i just got off the phone with a seasoned race inspector about Z bends on the forward bar. Apparently FIA does approve of them, but only allows them to be used in sanctioned FIA events for certain situations. This is to weed out and deter cage builders from offering similar systems, because non-oem cage builders should only be encouraged to build pass through dash forward bars with only 1 bend.

Apparently Several GT300 JGTC cars run z bend forward bars in their cage diagrams, and meet JAF and FIA specs. Probably the reason why you only see these kinds of bends in Japanese cars for rally and drifting events.

Quote:
In the downwards direction, the shoulder straps must be
directed towards the rear and must be installed in such a
way that they do not make an angle of more than 45° to the
horizontal from the upper rim of the backrest, although it is
recommended that this angle should not exceed 10°.
The maximum angles in relation to the centre-line of the seat
are 20° divergent or convergent.

If possible, the anchorage point originally mounted by the car
manufacturer on the C-pillar must be used.
Anchorage points creating a higher angle to the horizontal
must not be used.
In that case, the shoulder straps of 4-point safety harnesses
may be installed on the rear seat lap strap anchorage points
originally mounted by the car manufacturer.
within 45degrees or strapped to the rear seat lap by the manufacture..Seems to meet FIA regulation to me...

You can tell it's a race car because all race cars have steel wheels.
