My '06 GTI/DSG has been one of the most reliable cars I've had. Coming up on 90,000 miles and the only issue was a bad rear wheel bearing. Otherwise its been a peach.

I just hope my incoming BRZ approaches this level of quality. I've never owned a Asian car. Always had German and a few US cars.

Haven't had any mechanical problems with mine (2011), but I've had issues with rattling/squeeking.

The Japanese cars I've owned in the past have all been pretty flawless and rattle-free.

Welp, I got a dealer in Atlanta to sell me a GTI for about $100 over what TrueCar estimated the cost of the car is. I'll be driving down from Nashville on Saturday to pick it up. I won't be getting a BRZ/FRS anytime in the near future, but I still look forward to reading everyone's impressions when you start receiving yours!

Picking up a new 2012 gti for 22k tomorrow. Excited but bummed, that I couldn't afford the brz limited.

That's an excellent price and I think you'll be very happy with the car! It'll be easy to get more power out of it as well.

I wont track it or really race around, and so far it has been dreamy, never owned a car this nice, its almost like I am just renting it. Hasn't sunk in that I own it...probably will when I start the payments!

Loving it so far. The power is everywhere!

I am planning on just tinting the windows dark, may as well be mandatory here in texas and getting a tune/chip/reflash or whatever it is called, supposed to yield plenty of power for the cost.

So far loving the car, haven't had a dd that wasn't >10 years old in my life. Also, really wowed by the hill start assist brake hold thing, didn't know it was a feature.

I guess it's an OK consolation prize you got yourself there
You'll have a great time with it. Enjoy!

I picked up my 2012 Autobahn this weekend. I'm also loving the power. I also agree about the MPG monitor! I've noticed a direct inverse correlation between my MPG and the amount of fun I'm having...

Bringing this back to life as my FR-S Dreams have fallen through because of dealer mark-ups to 30k+ and no where near lease prices for the FR-S. Lucky I drove the FR-S MT and GTI DSG the same day, and yeah the GTI is a hell of a good car. It impressed me more than the FRS, the VW salesman took it out first and really showed us what it could do (nearly killed us, in a good way!) I mean just on the money the GTI has better interior fit and finish inside and out. Its faster, grips forever in the turns while the FR-S is tail-happy (Can't imagine this in rainny miami) I'm not ready to lease until august but its right around the corner and I will give scion one more shot when it comes time to get a new car. But as of now the GTI is a winner and everyone should give the 2012 GTI's a shot if you've never driven one.

One problem, the FR-S look so damn good, and it feels so low to the ground which I really enjoyed. I want both.

No question the GTI has a great interior. I preferred it to all the cars I drove in the $25K or so range. That said, I thought the power was dissapointing, and did not love the handling. The car had lots of understeer. It does have a smooth engine, and I like the option of having four useable seats and a hatchback.

You should also give the MazdaSpeed3 a drive. The Speed3 is noticeably faster than the GTI and has better handling, and really is a blast to drive. Does have some noticeable torque steer though and the GTI has a better interior.

I also have owned one lemon VW in the past (Jetta VR6) and there are just too many nighmare VW stories out there. It does seem like the GTI is not as problematic as other VW's though so it may not be as much of a concern for you. I also thought there will be a refreshed GTI out next year with lots more horsepower.
