Then the car will heat up a lot faster when you drive it. No need to idle and warm up your car until 1/4.
I was taught as a Pilot years back that taxiing and run ups before takeoff was safe as well during take off if the temperature gauge was on the first line. Warm, but not at normal opening temp yet.

Forgot to say. It's cold here in Cincinnati. I warm up the engine somewhat to allow the lubricants to work before I load up the engine, tranny etc.

Mine ran fine in the cold , but my impression is the BRZ is happiest in the warm weather. Nothing specific, just how it feels.

I don't like it but I'm not concerned about it.

my car misses out when it's been sitting in below 20F weather for several hours at a time (when I'm at work, pretty much). If it's cold enough, even after giving 30 seconds to idle before taking off, the car doesn't quite want to shift into 1st gear. Power feels noticeably sluggish, too.

I've had a few issues with the my Fr-s idling and almost stalling once. Could just be related to the "idling issue" some of us have experienced. But I haven't had any real issues starting her in the cold, I plug her in when its negative outside. I drove her around all winter here and temps down to -45 degrees!! Handles pretty good with blizzaks. She starts right up for me every time no matter the temp. The only problem I encountered here that the highest octane is only 90 BUT ethanol free!!

Few more days in 20 degree weather. Sometimes the car has to crank a bit more before firing, but this hasn't happened every time I start. Also the idle dip issue seems to have become noticeably worse; I haven't noticed it happen much in the past few months, but the same night it took a bit more to crank I felt and saw the idle dip a few times. It acted like a vacuum leak for a few seconds before settling back down.

Yesterday after initial start it backfired 2 or 3 times through the intake right after starting. MT is very stiff and 2nd gear is very hard to hit. I've resorted to double clutching till it warms up. The tires are stiff and out of round till warmed up. Nothing major.
Mine also did this when I started her up this morning.

I haven't had any issues getting it to turn over in the cold though.

I think I heard a few pops today too. No issues with cold start though. Maybe our cars are on the same cycle?

Edit: I doubt they were intake backfires. Sounded more like exhaust afterfires aka uncatalyzed hydrocarbons burning off.
