What is track to you? Is track 5 laps on an oval? 1 lap of Nurburgring? 60 laps of Suzuka?

Tell us what track, how many laps you expect to be out, how many sessions you expect to be out, how aggressive you plan on being, and most importantly how do you feel the car responds in it's current setup, what is it that you have a problem is that you want fixed?

Someone pee in your cheerios today?

The economics question was clear. I personally don't know how brake-friendly Dubai Autodrome is so knowing the track wouldn't have mattered in the end (for me at least).

That said, I guess I'm a little surprised that we need an upgrade but if you've suffered a failure I certainly accept that this is the case (and fwiw, I've seen a number of disk failures on wrx's so I guess that shouldn't come as a surprise).

It probably is the 'street' kits that cause me the most confusion, massive disks, 6 pot calipers and designed to be used in conjunction with street tyres. Madness.
Completely agree.

Automotive forums are a small sample of our society as a whole, this is a given. Outside of my direct, day to day interaction with society the automotive forums are my 2nd biggest window into the world at large, and it is frightening.

One constant remains the same across all plains, the thoughts of many are vague and muddled. I'm guilty of this too but hot damn do people not realize how vague their questions are sometimes? I understand there are no dumb questions, people want to learn, but you're asking for the universe in a sentence and want a useful response?

Sometimes people need a poke to get them thinking in a productive manner, as thinking without direction is just wasted air.

So yes, I suppose someone did piss in my cheerios.

Sorry about them cheerios

Bullet point style response:

- Number of laps: 3x20 minute sessions. Lap times in the 1:20 range. 3.5 km circuit. 3 hard braking zones on downward inclines. Not much time for brakes to cool.
- Fequency: 6-8 times per year.
- Aggressiveness: Pretty much full bore. Chasing times. But is is a trackday with other traffic.
- Current issue: Extreme pad fade near the end of sessions + high rotor wear.

Car already has SS lines, fluid. Have tried Hawk HP+ and Ferodo DS2500s.

Hoping somebody will eventually chime in whose tried high end aftermarket rotors.

A front BBK looks to be where it's at though due do high shipping costs even 'blank' rotors due to my location.

Which Essex AP kit do you recommend, the Sprint?
A BBK will likely be my next "big" upgrade.

Unless you have FI you should be able to use Centric Premium Rotors and quality track pads and not have an issue. If you are burning through them that quickly you may need some more education

Most of us use the Sprint Kit and not the Endurance.
You will get widely varying opinions on pads for street vs. track based on your climate.

I agree with this, if you don't track a ton, you can get away with some good basic blanks and a dedicated track pad and get plenty of life out of the brakes on this car, namely at the stock power levels.

I run the sprint kit like most others. The endurance is a bit overkill IMO for any reasonably "stockish" car.

You can get away with the OEM bits also, all comes down to what you want and what your experience is.

I never tried stock front calipers or stock pads on track with FR-S so can't compare. Just came back from Watkins Glen after pounding on the Essex Sprint BBK and XP12 pads, not a hint of fading and great stopping power with some late and aggressive braking. Love this combo and it's easy to swap pads on the Sprint front and the stock rear.

Does anyone know if there are any fixed caliper kits that fit under a 16" wheel currently offered?

They fit 16s with the right offset. On stock 02-05 WRX 16s you had to run a 5mm spacer for it to work.

But you don't really gain much besides looks and maybe a bit a feel from them. I am going to use them as I just want the looks and don't track my car.
