VSC Sport should definetly be more compliant. It's not really half way between all nannies ON and OFF. Doesn't let you slide enought before kicking in (specialy on wet pavement). On snow, it's a good safety to have in case you hit an icy patch and lose control let's say but still really annoying on slower driftty corners...

Chris, just for clarification, do you mean pressing and holding the button to deactivate stability control, or do you also mean doing the so-called "pedal dance" to deactivate brake force distribution?

I drove 97 Miata and it had no ABS no VSC or stability control whatsoever. I kinda missed Non-ABS brake because of hate hearing "gagagagagagaga" when ABS kicks in.
anyway, if a person had enough experience of control RWD before, i wouldnt worry about turning off them. i havent really experienced with BRZ yet since i just got it yesterday. (seriously i didnt even look at them yet lol) i probably turn them off and slowly learn what this car can do. |

Holding the button so stability and traction are both off. I've been driving RWD cars for a while, and found that driving the BRZ to be really similar to driving my S14, really predictable, but with even better steering! What's the pedal dance? I haven't head that one yet! |

Also, Has anyone ever had the traction light (the one that flashes yellow inside the tach) flash on/off when driving with TCS and SCS both off (solid dual lights on the right panel)? |

Yep! I noticed it does this too! Only when I'm getting the car pretty sideways though of course.

I was drifting the other day with the nannies off at high speed and the cruise control light came on yellow. It wouldn't allow me to use cruise the rest of the night. It's all good now.
I prefer to drive with the nannies on for safety's sake. I've come into a corner too hot with too much throttle and it made for enough momentum that no amount of steering input could cure. So I try to keep it civil. |

Pedal Dance. Apparently it puts the car into a mode that switches off the brake-assist features (while keeping ABS functional). A nice thing for those of us who prefer to be in full control.

That's interesting! I'm interested in how Moto was saying that stability will cut in if you get too sideways. I can't wait to get my own BRZ and take it to the track and test all this stuff out!

The BRZ with nannies full off on the Primacys is less forgiving than the Miata - mostly due to the large power difference. The Miata you can lose traction at lower speeds and really dance the line between traction and sliding. The BRZ rotates pretty fast once it starts going. Sport mode is usually pretty good at letting you have some fun and not end up facing the wrong way in traffic. But it should be noted in every "nannies off" thread that if you're not experienced driving a rwd car, don't touch the nanny buttons! When my Miata regains traction (after kicking the tail out), it just stops rotating. When the BRZ regains traction, it's a hard transition that wags the tail - kinda shudders. This might be a case of the Primacy's vs worn out tires that aren't gripping as hard when they do regain traction - though I don't recall the Miata doing that when the tires were new either. Always seemed to be a smooth transition. The BRZ "tail shudder" is not the most confidence inspiring feeling. Will need to experiment more with wet weather driving and different tires. |

I have to agree. The following worth repeating:
Most of you will not know this but when 24 year-old JAMES DEAN, a young actor, wrecked his Porsche in 1955 and killed himself will never recall that he was having 'fun". He was driving on a route that was popular for sports car drivers. Ironically, he tried to avoid a speeding 23 year old coming from the opposite direction who had crossed over the centerline. Dean had received a speeding citation earlier in the day. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Dean |
