reminds me of when i drove limo in and out of boston many years ago!
used to have to drive by the the "chelsea, mass tank farms" to get to the airport and while driving by would look over and observe the "gas tankers" underneath the huge gas storage tanks filling up.what i saw simply amazed me. i would observe "hess" tankers directly adjacent to "mobil" tankers "tapping" the exact same supply from the same storage tank! point is,the gas from "hess" comes from a "mobile" supply tank in a boston tank farm. (hot damn!) whoooda thunk?..just sayin' |

I've seen that happening. I used to work for a Stop and Shop gas station, and we all know that Stop and Shop doesn't have their own oil rig somewhere in the Gulf of Mexico, lol. I use Shell 93 in the cars I care about, and whatever's cheapest in the ones I don't (Hess 93 for my crappy old Mercedes)

Happens everywhere. They all fill up with base petrol from the same distribution centers. It is the additive blends added afterward that make each brand unique. She'll calls it V Power, Texaco says Put A Tiger In Your Tank, etc.

My previous ride was BMW 335i. The BMW dealership had literature recommending "top tier" fuels. The common brands are Shell, Exxon and Mobil. Essentially these fuels are the same as any except for the addition of cleaning additives. In addition, BMW recommended the periodic addition of "Chevron Techron" fuel additive to a tank every few thousand miles. I did all this faithfully because owning a BMW means doing everything including praying that might keep it from breaking. Before I learned about all these "requirements", I ran a few tank fulls of 93 Walmart gas. The car ran like a top on that stuff just the same.
That said, I was ready to do the same for the FRS, but I don't. Page 58 of the FR-S owners manual states "Never add any cleaning agents to the fuel tank. The addition of a cleaning agent may cause damage to the fuel system." I still use Shell 93 because I am comfortable that it is good quality and reputable fuel. I might go back to discount 93 fuel if I feel like it because maybe no additive fuel is fine if not the best. As advised, I am not doing any aftermarket additives. The car runs fine. |

Xtra Mart works for me
I have tried shell, Sunoco, Exxon and ethanol free once when I was in Buffalo. From what I can see my car hates Sunoco it seems to drag, feels like its bogged down. Shell is ok but still can hear crickets. One day I was very low and filled up at the Xtra Mart station in Manchester, 93 of course, now I am not sure where there gas comes from but I definitely felt a difference. It felt like my frs had more pep and acceleration. Maybe it was my imagination but I will stick with that. Xtra mart in New York sells ethanol free gas so maybe there gas has less ethanol, idk but I tired shell again after and my car didn't fell as peppy anymore so I'm going to stick with what works. Xtra mart isn't on the top tier list but it works for me.
