There's two schools of thoughts about running in the car - follow the manual or drive it like you stole it. Both have some pretty compelling arguments. The second camp reckons that with boxer engines, if you don't run the tight pistons in relatively hard, the car starts consuming more oil later on. Not sure what to make of that and how true it actually is, as I have zero experience with boxer engines,

I'm doing it a bit inbetween. Taking it easy most of the time below 4500, but every 8-10km take it up to 7000 in 2nd and 3rd, before settling at cruising speed again in 6th. 500km in and things are starting to loosen up nicely

Hey Mike, bet you enjoying the new car.

I pretty much did the same, took it easy through the gears, but still pushed the car from day 1, hit that limiter quite a few times before 1600km. My consumption is extremely good ave 6.8 to 7.2 without taking it easy. The only caution you need to be aware of is a spring which I can't at this remember what it does, tends to give fault due to pushing the car before the 1600km run.

Some guys had this happen and if you check our threads you will find details back in November if I recall.

This is the only reason why we have all warned the newer guys to take it easy and watch what oil you use.

If I find the thread will send to you or I am sure one of the others have it.

Hey Mike, what Ryan said,
i had my baby throw up on her self, with stalls and miss-fires due to hitting the limiter in every gear for about the first 100km, at the end of the day they had to replace the bottom right VVTI Cam Gear, 0019 error (cause of cam failure, advance and retard control spring inside cam gear)

Isn't that due to the "ECU learning" thing though, which required a reflash on earlier models?

Local service manager said the replacement vvti gear is a performance upgrade. Probably just stronger...

So the 86 had to do a wet lap on Prius tyres so not great but if you look at what it beat then it starts bringing things into perspective.
