On the coolant / water issue. After reading this I decided to check the level this morning while car was still cold in the garage. level was between low and full!
![]() Got to the office and checked it again and it was at full?? ![]() ![]() Is this normal? And on that note - check oil when car is cold or warm? |

You should always check both when cold in my opinion.
With circulation you never get the correct reading when hot. |

I doubt there is even a liter between low and full?
Overfilling the water is probably not half as bad as overfilling the oil.

I've always checked oil when the engine is warm , my thinking being this - if the oil expands when hot and rises , isn't there a chance of over filling if you check oil when cold ?
I'm open to correction though. |

i agree. at the end of the day very few people check oil and water at home in your garage. you check it when you fill up at the garage...

Sure but the idea is to check oil in the sump but when the engine is at operating temp the oil is all over the passages, etc.
