Just finished my tank of petro 94...

With 94:

Car seems a little bit more peppy but this could just be my mind playing tricks on me and even if there was an increase in performance it wasn't night and day.

Gas mileage on the other hand was significantly lower for me. Light came on at about 380km's where as with Shell 91 I can squeeze 420-440 before the car prompts me to fill up.

All and all I experimented with 94 because petro happened to be selling it at the same price of 87 octane on that speicific date (1.28 ltr for 94 makes baby jesus smile). I'll most likely stick to Shell 91 and besides I love collecting my air miles.

My next experiment will be to drive like I'm 75 and see what is the best gas mileage I can squeeze out of one tank. I'm aiming for 500kms. Average consumption atm is 9.0l/100kms.

Hope this helps amigos!

For anyone comparing fuel economy between 91 and 94, was the weather the same for both tanks? I get a big variance when the temperatures are below -5 consistently compared to if they're above +5 consistently, more than I noticed when comparing petro 91, 94 and shell 91 in the summer. In the summer the difference was about 0.3L/100km's between petro 94 and shell 91

I was driving 94 at like 9.0L/100km, n i was getting horrible milage... With 91, i can pretty much drive at 10.5L/100km and end up still having a bit more milage than 94. I think its really the weather problem :/
I have stopped using petro 94, gonna go bac to it in april or may.

You do know that 9.0L/100Km means better mileage than 10.5L/100Km right?

If this is the case go back to 94...

Yea i know, but the thing is, in the end, i travel less in km, whoch is weird. Its like the car drinks the fuel without me using it. I covered 500-600km with 91, only max of 500km with 94 even though im driving more fuel efficiently with 94

it could be the winter gas thing that Petro Canada uses in the winter. i heard it decreases your milage.

Are you re-setting the average mileage between tanks, or just guesstimating at the consumption from what the instant mileage display is showing you as you drive?

If you want to calculate your actual mileage, not what the computer is guessing at, take the number of km's you just drove and how many liters it took to fill the tank.

mileage = (liters / km's driven) * 100

ie if you drove 500 km's on 50L: (50 / 500) * 100 = 10L/100km's.

I resetted the avg L/100km every tank i use, the two tanks i compared were from 40xxkm to now 51xx. 94 went from 40xx to 4444 (easy to rmb) and it almost went empty, then 91 i went from 4480km to 4976km. Im actually suspecting my random idling times with my vehicle. Cuz during the 94 tank, i had way colder weather during the two snow storms.

I'll redo the test, prolly some inaccuracy occurred :/

Don't believe the computer, write down the exact number of km's and the exact number of liters it took to fill the tank and calculate it yourself.

The ONLY way you can get better mileage yet less km's is if the computer isn't counting when stopped.

my point of view the 94 sunoco makes it run better in high rpm. The 91 shell vpower does feel a bit less output but it is better all the way through rpm band( low mid to high). I do get crickets and its not that bad only when you run the car hard. the crickets from 94 doesnt do no harm to engine. Yes methonol is in it but not large enough % to do harm. i mix the two 91 shell n 94 sunoco. i prefer 91 for everyday use. Just use octane boosters and fue injector cleaners and youll be just fine. Zmax with your oil changes and your goo to go!!!!!

Give it a try...the chirping won't hurt anything, it's just an irritating noise.
