just to name a few, also lots of youtube reviews etc. I still have not narrowed it down how ever it seems there are a few of the Top 3 with the blackvue being nice but suffering from heat issues

GoPro Hero 3 is a full 1080 P video camera that when expanded with a 64 GB micro Sd card will give you roughly 9 hours of recording time. It can be mounted literally anywhere in the car and has a number of other accessories allowing you to use it in virtually any "adventure" scenario. That's obviously a limit of capability. A camera has captured a lot of hit and runs but if you are super paranoid about not being able to record everything you can always buy one for each side of your car :P
