Dark tint being illegal is reason enough to pull you over. BECAUSE ITS BELOW THE LEGAL LIMIT.

No it doesn't matter if its night or day if he used an actual meter. The meter supplies the light and a the reader to tell how much light is coming thru. They don't use the sun as a light source as that would change. I use a densitometer reading xray film and it works the same way.

About a month and a half after buying the car, I (thankfully) only received a warning. I was probably going about 80ish km/h in a 60 km/h zone (not really sure). Nothing huge, but, Firestorm tends to attract a lot more attention. Fortunately for me, the officer was a little surprised that I had my entire family in the car (as evidenced by the expression on the officer's face) after picking up my kids from the Grandparents watching them overnight (it was my anniversary (I also volunteered this fact)). The officer then proceeded to ask if this was the new Toyota that everyone was talking about? I carefully mentioned that it handles like it is on rails (making sure that I never mentioned that the car was fun to drive fast). I think that if I had been alone in the car, I surely would have received a ticket.

I wish that they actually had an actual tint limit here in Ontario, Canada, but, it is the officer's discretion as to whether it is too dark or not. As far as I am concerned, this leaves too much to interpretation and no consistency and no way of just buying what is legal. Thankfully, I have never been questioned on it (mine is 30%) and I know others with darker and they haven't had issues, but, not like you can use that as a defense.

In Alberta, any non factory tint is illegal on the front side windows. The 'back' side windows / rear window, anything goes.

That being said, every vehicle I've driven since 2006 has had tint on the front side windows. Never been pulled over for it. No tickets for other reasons though too.

My current car has lighter tint on the front than the rest of the car. I think I've got 35% on the driver / passenger windows. And 20% on the rest of the car, excluding the windshield of course.

He said it was because he couldn't see my temporary permit well enough. On the back of the ticket it says its a traffic violation so I think they can pull you over for just tint.

Pretty much... Georgia has a 32% limit. I'm taking the factory bullshit off and doing 15% all around I think. Check out the TINT compilation thread. Good looking FRS/BRZ's there!

Well I don't know about in the states but here in Canada were allowed 10%. Anything less than that would be thrown out in court. So In a 70 were good to 77.

I got pulled over in Virginia back when I had my Civic because it had 35% and their legal limit was 40something. Granted the cop couldnt do shit about it because my car is registered in Georgia where that is legal, but I still got pulled over for it.

I have the factory (port installed) tint. With all these hassles you all receive I am glad I have it.

(Note, I'm a BRZ driver, but figured I would chime in my bullshit pullover)

Was taking a cruise this weekend and stopped to grab gas. While waiting for it to fill, I noticed a cop stop and park facing me in the attached grocery parking lot. Yep, he's mean mugging.

Paid with credit card, so I grabbed my receipt and left. Knowing he was there, I took extra caution to not spin the tires (mildly wet) or do anything...he pulls me over about 1/5 mile down the road.

Suspicious vehicle was the reason he pulled me over; let me go after showing him my license/registration/insurance. Didn't even go back to his car to check out the paperwork. Pretty sure he wanted to see what kind of car it was. I didn't ask or say anything because I knew I wasn't doing anything wrong and didn't want to escalate it for being an ass.

All I got from his was, 'Have a good day and stay safe'. Wtf?

I've received 2 in the past year for 30% tint all around, one while pulled over speeding, one they just had a check stop (should've just rolled down my window oh well) but before that none in the other 6 years of driving

There's no rule saying were allowed 10% over... its just up to the officer how much of a **** he wants to be. Photo radar is usually set about ~10km over but there's no magic number they have to use.
