Not at all. If you track an otherwise stock FRS, it runs dangerously warm. These oil coolers are cheap insurance.

Thanks guys for the nice comments. It's hard to get compliments on forums nowadays.

I got a great deal working with Greddy so I decided it was cheap insurance for me. When I tracked my FRS bone stock, I was seeing oil temps up to 115-118C. I knew right away an oil cooler was a must.

This kit wasn't cheap for me either. But it looks nice and it sits offset to the passenger side. I knew I was eventually gonna go FI so this kit was the kit for me. Trust Japan developed this kit along with the placement of the intercooler.

So, now that I have the kit, I went back to the track and with the turbo, the oil temps were at the highest point, 100C. Still kinda high but it beats 118 stock.

Whatever kit you decide, I highly recommend one. These motors run hot.

Of course, a Greddy one would be a nice purchase

I mean ae86 back in the 80's had one.
back then oil was different, 25yrs of chemical engineering we have oil thats less heat resistant and cleans internal better.

but for me I think I'll be running the good ol' FC3S oil cooler from the junk yard just like on my AE86

and by pass it straight thru the oil pan just like old school

I am doing a radiator and oil cooler, not happy at all with thermal control on this car for hard driving, Good post, just very expensive for the Greddy piece. Glad you get a good discount from your company.

Nope. If you read my post, I said it was a good deal. But rather still expensive for me.

I like free parts and I don't complain. But I also don't mind paying for parts either.

How is the shroud working? Bolted to cooler? No flex or chatter at higher speed?

There is foam included in the kit that sticks to the shroud between the core and shroud. It prevents chatter and also keeps air with the shroud.

I haven't tested the oil cooler without the shroud so I have no comparison, but so far, it is working well.
