I dont know why you find Scion badging inferior to Toyota when its litterally the same thing. I dont think 35-40k for supra badged as a scion is out of the question either.
Since the invoice for a 6 spd FR-S is 22,900, I believe you paid too much for you car. If the benefits of pure pricing is to alleviate dealer markups then that's pretty sad. Let Subaru mark up a BRZ to 38K and let the fool pay that much but as a consumer, you should be able to negotiate on the price of the vehicle.

I'm calling it a lower tier because that's what it is. Toyota is branched out into 3 with Scion being the lowest/entry level brand; Lexus>Toyota>Scion. Yes it is essentially a Toyota with a build between the G and GT spec and the decision to brand it a Scion was to help with declining Scion sales.

See, again, this is where you went and fugged up! The MKIV's sticker was in the 45-50K back in the 90's so there is no way that it can be 35-40K today. It will more then likely be in the GTR price range, 60-70K if not higher!

Just to make sure we are on the same page... we are talking about the iconic Toyota Supra Twin Turbo with the 7K Getrag transmission!!

There is absolutely no way it'll ever be a Scion because Akio isn't dumb enough to make that mistake! :happy0180:

I think the FR-S was a different case. Toyota wanted and needed something to help boosted the image of the struggling Scion brand. Lexus on the other hand is doing just fine.

This new 86 however, is just the beginning of Toyota's sports car renaissance. Soon, there will be an entry-level sports car, and of course, a Big Dog range-topper. You know the name.

"With my next sportscar," explains Tada-san, "I want to make a big... ‘wow'." His arms gesticulate large vortex circles. "Nobody expected us to build something like the GT 86. I want to give the world a shock." Does that mean we are - whisper it - getting a new Supra?

He laughs. Quite loudly. "Of course, anything is possible." Sasaki-san also chirrups in. "With the 86, we didn't want to use driver aids - that's the thinking. But new Supra means big power, so we need something for that. It'll be a different avenue of sports car from the GT 86."

Tantalisingly, neither of them would formulate anything concrete, so it remains as thus: the GT 86 is the hot new thing on the block, and a new Supra is "just one avenue of sports car Toyota could take. There are others too." One thing is for sure however: if Tada-san has his way, the new sports car definitely won't be a hybrid.

Mr Tada explains with a smile: "The president (Akio Toyoda) has asked me to make a successor to the Supra as soon as possible." The chief engineer was speaking in Germany at the recent launch of the Toyota 86 Experience to highlight the model's sporty abilities.

Two Coupe Lexus Plan Could Mark Brand’s Lithium-Ion Revolution

Quote:
Compared to its German rivals the Lexus product portfolio doesn’t have much depth and lacks any vehicles with true sex appeal, though that’s about to change says marketing boss Brian Bolain.

When asked about the timing of the close rollout of two coupe concepts, the LF-CC and LF-LC, Bolain responded that the focus on two-doors is, “very intentional,” admitting that right now the company sees its absence in those segments as, “our biggest deficiency.”

While Bolain extolls the virtues of the Lexus brand, ranging from everything to quality and reliability, to customer service and luxuriously appointed interiors, he admits that two areas Lexus is currently lacking in are design and performance. “How do you quickly add an emotional element to a brand,” he asks? “With coupes.”

Commenting that since the SC was retired in 2010, apart from the lofty and limited LFA, Lexus has no coupe in its lineup. “We definitely have a void there today,” he says, commenting that without such a car (or cars) it’s “hard to be taken seriously from a performance perspective.”

Pointing towards the future, Bolain highlights the LF-CC and the LF-LC Concepts, the former a strong indication of the next-generation IS, as well as new coupe model that could wear the RC badge. As for the latter, if approved for production (which it’s all but certain to), it would sit at the upper scale of the Lexus brand, as a serious luxury and performance machine. In fact, Lexus recently announced it would be powered by a “next-generation” hybrid drivetrain capable of producing 500 hp.

How Lexus plans to achieve that output remains a mystery though the next-gen hybrid system could be one that finally makes the switch to more advanced lithium-ion technology, which produces more power from a smaller and lighter package. Bolain confirmed that the LF-LC isn’t yet confirmed for production, though the, “outcry has been tremendous.” Bolain also says that while Lexus has, “no timeline for the introduction of lithium ion,” the brand hopes to have it confirmed for when (and if) the LF-LC coupe makes it into production.

Two-door planning at Lexus does, however, stop with these two cars says Bolain. When asked if the Toyota luxury brand might consider an additional model, perhaps to compete with cars like the Mercedes SLK or BMW Z4, he commented that Lexus has no plans to, “flood the market with coupes.” If the LF-CC and LF-LC both make it to production, he says, “we’ve got good coverage.”

the more i think about it, the more i see the lf-lc morphing into a supra successor.

I'm ok with that, I think. Sort of makes sense, considering the LFA was the 2000GT successor... sort of works.

I don't think the LF-LC is a Supra successor. Its an AWD V8 hybrid luxury coupe. And Tada-san said a new Supra will not be a hybrid.

A new Supra is in the works; Toyota has already secured the trademark for the Supra name.

Modified Toyota 86 Features Supra-Inspired Taillights, Bound For Tokyo Auto Salon

Quote:
The Toyota 86 is receiving a makeover courtesy of tuner Gazoo Racing – whether or not you think the car needs one. Called the GRMN Sports FR Concept, the modified Toyota 86 coupe (known as the Scion FR-S in the U.S.) will sport Supra-inspired taillights when it debuts at the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon show later this month.

Gazoo Racing released a few teaser shots of the concept on its official website and Facebook page, revealing the taillight and headlight design. The headlights appear more streamlined and angular compared to the stock units, featuring four separate projector lenses within the housing along with what appears to be strips of LED running lights. But the taillights will likely be the first thing Japanese sports car enthusiasts will notice, as Gazoo Racing itself says the lamps were meant to recall those found on the fourth-gen Toyota Supra.

Also making an appearance at this month’s Tokyo Auto Salon are a number of Nissan concepts including the Juke Personalization Concept and Leaf with Nismo Performance package. The Juke’s already-polarizing design is further accentuated by a contrasting orange-and-dark gray paint scheme, while the Leaf EV gets a new aero-optimized body kit through the Nismo Performance package.

Check out all of the Tokyo-bound concepts below, and stay tuned for more coverage on the 2013 Tokyo Auto Salon.

@Guff shame on you not seeing this

EDIT: I think the fact the tails resemble so much of the last gen supra, those tails themselves "hinting" on supra development, that in itself is more exciting than this car
but the question remains... what else in this car will be used on the new supra who knows!

BUT SERIOUSLY TOYOTA GOOD JOB ON THE TAIL LIGHTS!!!! KEEP THEM!!!!

It just...doesn't look right.

Its most defiantly clean...but, i'll stick with the stock FRS for now.

Great job though, i'd give them credit for the back end!

I thought I'd love it more than I do. The rear is pretty nice but the front is a bit bland and looks like a cross between a Lotus Evora and a Mitsubishi FTO.
