I thought that cannon ball runs were time dependent and incurred penalties for being too soon/fast???

We got invited to an event like this through Rally West USA. It was pretty fun. You get clues and have to take a picture and a certain number of checkpoints. If you get to the end point to fast (they dont tell you what too fast is, but is based on a reasonable finish) you are DQ'd. It was a fun way to kill a Saturday

Cannonball is get there as fast as you can usually, unless the new sanctioned ones do this for legality reasons.

Honestly what that looks like to me is a light rainfall drying on a dirty car. I've had my car look exactly like this before, I ended up blasting it with just water from the hose at a high velocity which pushed most of the black waterspot stains off. I suggest you do the same if possible instead of letting that sit on the surface of the paint.

However, there could be an acid rain or ash component to it as well. I did notice some white ash pieces had settled on my windshield on those days where the air was super smokey. As far as the wheels, I believe that happens from the rain hitting the ground and then splashing dirt and debris that was on the ground back up onto them. I see similar patterns on mine but to a greater extent because I have to park in the dirt.

Here are some of my "hall of fame" epic dirty car moments that I've posted here, should make you feel better.

Flower bits from a wind storm:

Mysterious orange stains:

Wind storm part 2:

Honorable mention: Paid $225 to get my car detailed and they left the inside of the windshield like this:

And a few bonus shots attached below.

I just washed it 2 or 3 weeks ago so there wasn't that much dirt... Is it possible there was ash in the air from the fires and the rain brought it down?

Even the wheels got hella dirty and I haven't driven it since Sunday..

Also, I would have complained about paying that for a detail job and them skipping the inside of the windshield.

Really? The ones I saw (not the one hosted by Golberg) had the copilot with a stop watch and doing calculations to get to the checkpoint at the correct time.

Seems like they are just using the name but its more TSD style then. I get it but that kinda sucks lol

Though most true Cannonball Runs now a days seem to be solo ventures due to not wanting the publicity

I did complain about it and they said:

"Please stop by. We cannot figure this out by the picture. There is some residue that has not been removed entirely by our glass cleaner. Was there any coating put on the dash prior to coming in? I can honestly say I've not seen that before but it could be a film or residue coming through the air vents."

Unfortunately the shop is in SF and is only open M-F 8-5 so it is pretty difficult for me to be able to "stop by". Had to take a vacation day in the first place to take it to them.

You guys know how to get 303 protectant off? Think I accidentally oversprayed onto the gauge cluster and now there's these pale white dots on it. I've tried pretty much everything I can think of to get them off (magic eraser, goo gone, alc+water, Invisible Glass, wd40) and it's still there.

No, I want to make an event that legit just has clues (obviously easy enough) with clues at the next, yadda yadda, cash prize st the end. No rally, just be at the end point by a certain time and first one there wins the cash. Haha

Just got a total bs fix it ticket for lack of a front plate. North bay cops are such sticklers. I had the front plate in my trunk I could have put on in a few mins but no the **** cop just had to ticket me for it.

Were you parked and they just ticketed you or did they actually pull you over for it? At least it's an easy fix it ticket.

You were breaking the law and got a ticket. That sounds legit to me. Put it on, pay your $25, and move on.

Just get a front relocator kit. It's easy and doesn't ruin the bumper, other than making things a bit asymmetric.

The guy was being kind of a **** enforcing a totally stupid law. I called the local pd to check the civil code (making sure I'm not getting the wrong fine for not having any plates) and the clerk told me she didn't have a front plate either.

I will pay the fee and then remove the plate again, the car looks too cool without a plate. I mean a cop can't give me a higher priced ticket later if he sees it off again? Can he? I imagine I would just get another fix it ticket.
