It's an automatic transmission with a fancy name and a torque converter that locks up a lot.

The Lexus IS F features an 8-speed Sport Direct Shift (SPDS) automatic transmission with sequential shift which can lock-up the torque converter from 2nd through 8th gears

The SPDS is derived from the unit introduced in the 2007 Lexus LS, which was the first vehicle to carry an 8-speed transmission. The SPDS allows for shifts to occur in 0.1 s (100 ms), compared to 0.05 s (50 ms) of F1 race cars.

Meh. I mean, it's less slushy. Better performance. It's not exactly a manual or even a dual clutch automatic. I don't think it's worth selling a car and buying a new one. Not even close.

^this. Just a slightly quicker "reacting" slush box. Drove both a GTI and an IS-F, and the DSG felt much better/quicker imho. Never driven an auto 86, so I can't compare.

Sounds like a big piece of shit marketing scam. lol. Nothing about a torque converter should be called sporty. Lol

Automatics can be great, especially in big power cars. They are simply less involving, and involvement is why so many of us bought this cae.

Afraid quality will drop when they're made in China?

Yep, how did you know? Since when do you keep up on DJ gear news? You're like a jack of all trades, you know about everything.
