Any recommendations? I know people have mentioned similar things around these forums before but thought I'd see if you guys have more recent opinions.

I was leaning toward certified pre-owned, but looks like subaru may not sell any of that so I'd have to go FRS.

But on the other hand I'm considering brand new, it just means my price range jumps up a bit.

What do you guys think?

Also what are things like around the south bay in terms of meetups? I've never gone to a car meetup before but I know people who have and they always seem fun. Since I'll probably go with an automatic rather than stick shift would I get any bad looks? lol.
Leasing a new one may end up having the same, if not lower monthly payments than financing a CPO one. Then you'll have the option of trading in or buying out at the end.

The automatic gets better mpg, but there's something about manual cars...that and it's a great theft deterrent (read some stories about thieves trying to steal cars, but giving up after they realize it's a stick)

When I was getting into these cars I wanted a BRZ, I looked far and wide on the internet to find a good deal on them. What I did first though was go to a local Toyota dealer and I test drove an FRS. If you want to read my impressions of that test drive it is in this thread: http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92148

I picked the FRS because at the time it was exactly what I was looking for; certified pre-owned, manual, white, low miles 24k, and the price was right where I wanted it.

I checked a bunch of different websites such as craigslist, and cargurus just to name some of the top of my head.

Another option which has been stated is to read up more on the new refresh that is scheduled to come fall of this year. The 2017 Toyota 86 has new front and rear bumpers, headlight and taillights, interior refresh, and it has new engine tuning (5 more hp and 8 more torque) as well as a change in the suspension. If the new refresh looks nice to you, you can always wait for those ones as well.

I hope this helped a little

Usually it would probably be worth around 20k but it all depends if you're buying private party or from a dealer

Anyone have any exhaust shops they recommend that is reasonably priced in the San Jose area? I'm looking to get my exhaust checked out from the headers back. I think I may have a leak after installing my uel headers.

thanks

Yeah I'm usually pretty good about that kinda thing, plus I take things at face-value rather than setting special expectations. Lots of people who prefer stick are obviously going to hate on AT.

Thanks though! The automatic definitely sounds like a fun car to drive. I really need to visit a dealer and test one out- never have before but sounds like a dream.

Was thinking about it a bit but probably just going to 'buy' with the monthly payments over leasing. tough decision though.

Haha you're telling me you don't drift even a bit?!

Honestly I'm imagining once I finally get one being able to drive Hwy 17 and the other nice forest-y roads. Have you ever done any of them in the bay area before?

Seems like they'd be super fun in a twin (except for avoiding shit tier drivers also driving those roads).

Dude that post is super informative! Thanks!

On one hand waiting for the refresh might be a good idea, but I've just always heard it's better to go with a model that's maybe a year old rather than brand new. Any thoughts on that?

Honestly your white FRS sounds like exactly what I want, except I'd be getting it in auto. I was checking out the Scion pre-certified site and there were quite a few like that.

My dad is going to help me (I know I know but it's chill) figure out 'the right deal' since he's pretty good with that kinda thing. But in general he's trusting me to figure out whether I should go pre-owned or new.

Plus pre-owned is cheaper, so..

When you got yours with mileage like it was, was the value/price worth it?

I bought mine with something around 24k miles and I believe it was a 21k sticker price. I'm paying something like 330 a month.
