It was actually a little more composted than that and isn't 100% resolved yet. lol.

NorCal (Bay Area) OFF-TOPIC Chat Thread

Can anybody recommend any tires that best fit my needs of

-good for daily driving and lasts long
-won't see any track time at all
-has to be available in 255/45/18
-good grip still
-under $200 per ea.
-can take a beating in case I hit a curb or pot hole

I'm looking at the Hankook v12s and S1 Noble2. I currently have the evo1 V12s (now discontinued) and they're okay. Last week's storm makes me want to shift to all season... so I'm really looking at the S1s. They have really good reviews on tire rack. Anyone with experience that can chime in? I'm also trying to learn more about the Falken FK453s, but cannot seem to find more info on them, except that they may wear fast. Anyone have experience with these?

Edit: just learned summer tires handle better in rain than all season tires.

-Manny

Someone will probably say this more elegantly than I, but you don't need to go to all seasons just for the rain -- a "summer" high performance tire will still work just fine in rain. Just not for ice/snow which is what the "winter/all seasons" are made for. However, if you are looking for cheaper tires, you may find more options in the all seasons category than the summer performance category (just guessing).

Bridgestone S-04 Pole Position. I currently run them and like them a lot. Good grip, good in the rain, fairly cheap (160/ea from tirerack in your size), and last pretty well. I have done a couple autox and many canyon runs and they are just about to hit the wear bars after 20k miles. They were recommended to me as comparable to the Michelin PSS.

What PMok said. Summer tires is a misnomer. It should really be called a 3-season tire. The advantage that all season tires has over a summer tire is that an all season tire can navigate FREEZING temperatures better than a summer tire. In the case of rain, wet, puddles... more times than not, the summer tire actually performs better. There's certainly exception to this rule, but for the most part, it is true.

Yup, best wet traction I've had were with Yokohama Parada Spec-2 tires. Worst ever (doesn't matter wet or dry) were Goodyear Eagle LS.

Thankfully the FR-S is super responsive. Some fcuking stupid semi truck driver, after stopping after seeing me approaching at highway-exit speed, decides to start his left turn and runs wide into my lane (right lane) with less than 200 feet or so of me getting to that point! Probably had less than a foot from having my left rear clip his semi, and less than a foot from smashing into the yellow containers and tunnel. See link for street image.

He was halfway into my lane, btw.

^exactly! As a son of a Goodyear engineer, that misnomer has always bugged me. The "all seasons" name were really meant for places that got snow. They are actually a compromise, and won't work as well in our fair weather/mild temps as a summer tire would.

I am not really into tattoos but can admire some nice artwork there. I can't help but think that there is a huge variance in the quality of tattoo artwork out there. Some tattoo work (I'm guessing the majority of inexpensive places) is horribly bad and I feel bad for the people who have to live with it.
