Welp, at ~26k miles finally got my first CEL (P0351 ignition coil). Now let's see what this whole "warranty" thing is all about (this is my very first new car)

I've had this problem twice, once at 36K miles and it's happening again around 75K miles.

Toyota dealer replaced the #2 coil and plug no problem... but you have a Subaru so good luck.

So, took it to Livermore Subaru this morning to get it looked at. They said it would only take a few mins to diagnose, so I sat with baby in the waiting room. Two hrs later, still waiting with a screaming baby in hand, was practically begging for a loaner car to take baby home and feed her/put her down for a nap but this stupid service adviser guy (his name is Greg, and I've never liked him, but my usual guy wasn't there) refuses to give me a loaner since I don't have the extended warranty and he likes to save the other loaner cars for those who really needed it. Obviously this little f*tard doesn't have any kids or else he would understand. Another hour later, they bring the car out only to tell me that they just switch the coils around to a different spot, so I would have to drive it and if I get the CEL again then I'd have to bring it back again for them to "verify" and only then would they order parts. So I'd have to comeback again for a third time when the parts come in to finally get it fixed. I gotta say, I'm very disappointed, I don't think I can recommend Livermore Subaru anymore. This warranty thing is more trouble than its worth...

I think thats the same guy that wanted to charge me 1.5 hours labor to pull an abs code. I told them I just needed the actual code and he said they dont do anything like that without diagnosing the issue. So instead I drove to Modesto and they did it for free and washed my car. I honestly cant stand Livermore's service dept.

Maybe try Downtown Toyota/Subaru in Oakland and get Subie techs with Toyota hospitality?

Frankly I'm surprised you went there again after they got oil all over your engine bay during an oil change.

Ya, I figured that was more the fault of some low level tech guy stuck with doing all the oil changes, but I was happy with the overall service.

This time around, I'ms pretty disappointed with everything: service adviser for being so inconsiderate, the head tech (Joe) for just switching around my coils and their whole system in general (must "verify" everything before justifying warranty work). I must admit, I'm not really familiar with how warranty jobs work, but to me, it just feels like they are just buying time/"kicking the can down the road" and then next thing you know it, I'm past the warranty mileage, problem comes back, and I'm no longer covered

I can't believe Subi dealers are so shitty. After 45 min of waiting Toyota service advisor goes, "it was the coil pack, but we'll replace the plug too just in case. Do you want a Camry or Prius for loaner car?"
