Has anyone here installed an aftermarket stereo system in their FR-S/BRZ? Not one of the OEM+ systems, but just a standard subs/amps/speakers/deck type install.

I have a bunch of gear already, just trying to decide if I should mess around with trying to install it.

As long as you have the harness then you probably can prewire the stuff. I have amps and sub. That was pretty straight forward.

I am quite lame with the 12V electrical system, don't really know what I'm doing.

So for now I'm just trying to figure out if someone else has done it (and maybe even willing to lend a hand), and how much work it would be to replace all the speakers in the car.

The conundrum is that I like awesome, clear, loud music but I'm incredibly lazy.

Ic, well if you have all the harness stuff for your car. It's easy. Red with red, black with black etc.... RCA to RCA. And the only different part is adding the amp. In which you hook up the red wire last. If you have everything I can help on my free time. So we wouldn't be able to do everything all in one day. But little by little will show you the small improvements.

Haven't installed one on a twin yet, but it's pretty easy. Just make sure you have a quality crimp tool and quality connectors. I think removing the trim pieces without breaking anything would be harder. Haha

It's nothing special. I have an Alpine 9811 deck and a JVC KD-SH99 - not sure which I want to use. Then I have a 5 channel Alpine amp, and a 12" Image Dynamics sub with a sealed enclosure.

Also have some 5.25" and 6.5" speaker sets. It looks like our front dash and rear seat speakers are 4" though and according to Crutchfield, there aren't any direct replacements due to mounting style and magnet depth.

Pretty pics:

Is there a double din to single din mounting brackets? Or do we have to make our own? That is the hard part. The panels can be pulled off by hand. No tools. Just to seamount the stereo.

Yeah, something like this: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_003TOYK...t.html?tp=3121

I also have to decide if I want to give up my BT capability.

The OEM+ systems are looking more and more attractive
