FWD uses a trans axle and typically has less parasitic driveline losses versus rear wheel drive which has to also spin a drive shaft, a separate differential and in some cases a carrier bearing. More weight to spin equals more hp and torque losses.

Most of these cars seem to dyno around 160-170 whp stock on dynojets. With 15% RWD drivetrain loss, you'd want to be at the top end of that range (170 whp), but these engines pick up a few more whp after a few thousand miles so that may be the answer.

For example, this stock FR-S dyno'd at 166 whp with 250 miles on the odometer. After 8500 miles still stock, 174 whp. And with an ECU reset at 8500 miles, 176 whp.

Insideline dyno'd the FR-S back in April...173whp 143lb/ft. 200bhp seems spot on to me.

If these twins put out 200 RWHP,they would be fast enough for 90% of the drivers out there and do better between stoplights.

I srry, I should have stated that I do understand that rwd has more drivetrain loss than fwd. I was just wondering if having an lsd robbed more

The main thing that makes the car feel slow is the lack of torque, not lack of power. I'm coming out of a car with 75 more WHP and 150 more WTQ.

Exactly. I had a 3rd gen RX-7 that was a slug off the line but once rolling was wicked fast. Not saying the FR-S is fast but it has plenty of power for it's intended purpose.

Exactly, I just take the car to redline to merge onto the highway!

I'll add some bolt-ons down the line but honestly I never expect this car to feel fast for me, I bought it for a 30MPG DD that I can prep for AutoX. I didn't want to spend money on a fast/crazy track car right now because I want to save for a house.

The good thing about the car is the weight. Any change in HP would have a greater effect than a heavier car (HP to weight ratio).

For quite a few years now, standards prevent automakers from overrating horsepower. If they're rated at 200hp, you can be reasonably assured that they are making 200hp at the crank.

95mph is the best trap speed I've seen for these cars. Plugging into the reasonable ballpark formula for flywheel hp:
FR-S/BRZ hp ~ (95/234)^3 * (2750 lb. + 200 lb.) = 197hp. Close enough...

Lol I enjoy how some of you are worked up about it. His not saying FRS/BRZ is pos or how much he's hating this car for not having enough HP. Just asking from his equation, it doesn't add up to be 200.

So just simply do math equations or show some dyno & have a nice debate

As for the OP, I'm not sure how much mile you have put on the car, but before & after break-in can make a different (like other member have posted).

Fully agree... If they consistently do ~95 (well-driven), close enough for me, too.
Just too many examples of 92-93 that I've seen, and some of those were well-driven.

That being said, I'm hoping my personal car makes ~200whp on e85 @ 2800 w/ me in it (weight-saving mods will also be in place) & runs 99-100 traps--I'll be tickled.

I came out of a car w/ 601whp--561wtq SAE (132+ qtr)--so I'm a bit jaded... lol
