More speculation:
My hopes are that they see a decrease in the relevance of ethnicity.
Really, if I think about it, what could they possibly do from a marketing perspective that wouldn't alienate one group or another?
I don't know if it's really based on where they want to focus on marketing alone.
There's probably a lot more to it than that. Or not.
So, they get an idea of what type of human is interested in buying the car.

Even in job applications when questioned by my ethnicity I simply state I prefer not to disclose as that information is completely optional and biased.
