I own 335i and '86
One open diff, other LSD one heavyweight, other featherweight an m3 may be a better match in that they both get LSD, if money no object I may have to take the M3 over the 86 f30 is powered by a motor I am not as crazy about, I prefer whats in the 335's, personally new f30..it gives better fuel economy and all, but the punch doesnt feel the same and its a smaller motor with bigger turbo, which is more like my FI BRZ, once you supercharge the BRZ it may be a more fun car than a non M f30 |

If money is not an object, I'll have a Cayman, thank you.
If I have to pick between those two, FR-S, as I don't own cars that weigh more than 3k lbs or have four doors (Cayman is 2950lbs).

If this would be your only car, then the BMW would probably be the better choice, with the extra room and all. But, in my opinion the F30 is less of a driver's car then previous 3 series generations. I've driven two of them -- a Sport Line 328i with 6MT, and M Sport with x-Drive and AT -- and the steering is incredibly numb, and the cars have a slightly disconnected, isolated feel. For me, the numb steering is the main issue, as the isolation is a result of the car's incredible refinement, which would make it an excellent daily driver and family car. I have also driven an FR-S, and it provides a much more visceral, old school driving experience. (Heck, so does the Focus ST.)
So, for about the price of a new 335i, I would go for an Accord Sport with 6MT, and one of the twins. In fact, I posted a "vs." thread raising a similar issue, i.e., dump my TSX for an F30, or keep it and get one of the twins. I would much rather do the latter, but it's difficult in the city. |

So what you're saying is, if you have $50k to spend on a car instead of $25k...
Buy the FR-S and mod the bejeezus out of it! Actually, buy the BRZ because you'll get some of the luxury features you'd find in the BMW, making the choice even easier ![]() I was leasing a 2012 Audi S4 earlier this year and although it was absolutely brilliant and I'd take it over a 335i any day (no dislike for BMW's either; I own an older 3 series now), when I drove it to the FR-S test drive event, I left disappointed that I was going home in the Audi and not the FR-S. That should tell you something!

If money was no object then I would wait for the new 4 series replacing the current 3 series coupe

Different cars for different purposes. I think I'd still rather have the FR-S...however, if we were talking about a 1-series (like a 135i or 1M), I'd definitely rather have that.

I just replaced my 135 with the BRZ. The 135 was a blast to drive. Nothing like having 300 ftlbs of torque at 1500rpms, pretty much up to 6K. Most people thought it had a V8, due to how hard it pulled. It cornered fairly well, but I think the BRZ is better. And, I had Michelin PSS tires on the 135. But, I was an @ss in that car. I had no self control with the throttle. The BRZ keeps me in check with the throttle. If I could find a good deal on a 1M...well I might have to go back to being an @ss.

If money was not a factor would you choose a 997 911 GT3 RS or FR-S?
Why is this even a thread?
