So Parrot launched their Asteroid market at CES2013 - I'm not impressed. There are only about 5 apps and it looks like that is the only way to get apps onto the radios. Kinda pointless having an Android radio that won't allow you to install things such as Torque, TomTom, etc.

The user interface, quality, easy of use, etc will be brilliant, so as a head unit I'm sure it'll be brilliant but I want more than that.

I've found a supplier in SA that sells Android radios for Toyota, etc but they don't seem to be interested in helping since I'm not a distributor.

Can any of those radios run Torque?

Yep, I've seen a couple that can. I'll probably end up importing one of those.

Check this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Android-2-3-...-/170839099131

It ticks all the boxes and it doubles as a tablet! Just a pity it's so damn ugly...

These are the 2 I'm interested in:

I am aware of the Cafi unit that can run torque but it seems that none of the Chinese knock offs can run it without some kind of hack.

Yep but I don't mind hacking - it IS Android so it's almost expected. Thing is though, I've read about a lot of people complaining about the Chinese quality and units packing up within months.

You get what you pay for and I reckon Ca-Fi is the one to go for. Only $29 to ship to SA. They've announced a new one though so I'd probably wait for that.

That's not cool at all. Did they give a reason?

I'm assuming you've done more research on them than me, do you know if you can install any Android apps such as Tomtom, TuneIn radio, etc or are you limited to what they provide?

EDIT
From the review I've posted:
Quote:
The Ca-Fi didn't come with any offline navigation software. It's disappointing. Additionally, the only downloadable software on the play store was Be-On-Road. However, I managed to force install CoPilot, because Android! haha. It was relatively simple, but I fear the less technically inclined wouldn't be able to. That's not to say Be-On-Road is bad. I tested it a couple times and it worked fine (sounded good too), but I really like CoPilot... and it's on sale for 9.99 right now.
That's good news. I'm almost sold...

He only said is was exclusively for the Ca-Fi 621000 series.

I haven't done much research on android units, my main aim is have torque running thru the H/U, so most of my questions to retailers is, can it run Torque...also not prepaired to pay +- R9000 for the cafi torque unit ...will just have to wait and see.

2forme on this forum is helpful regarding the android h/u functionality...pm him

Yeah, been reading his posts and he reckons rather go for a knockoff since the Ca-fi is overpriced.

Thing is, it can't be THAT difficult getting Torque to work. I have 3 requirements - Tomtom, Torque and TuneIn Radio.

Fitted that Toyota fortuner unit advertised on bid or buy. Slotted straight in, no spacers, no trim, no cutting, just an adaptor for the aerial. Satnav works like a charm. Sound marginally better than the stock system.
