In auto racing a gear selection of this nature is called a "money shift". Why?... Well because it usually costs lots of money.

But you weren't racing so I doubt you did any damage.

You wouldn't normally change at that speed but clearly it will do it.

You can't say 'you really have to shove it in there and that put un-needed pressure on the fork' unless you've tried it.
Sounds like it slipped into 1st quite happily.

Reminds me of a story Mach V Dab told me about a friend's Integra he drove. Story goes it Had some fully built engine and other stuff. Dan kept losing from a roll/highway pulls until the guy asked him when he was shifting; turns out the car revved sky high, but he'd been shifting early due to the stock tach. Lol!

How do you get it into 1st going that speed? I feel like when I down speed at certain speeds. There's a wall where it won't let me shift into the lower gear.

My brother had a motor-swapped CRX that was the same way. It started out life as an HF model. We never bothered swapping out the stock tach, with an indicated redline of 5,000 rpm.

Hahaha glad I'm not the only one man. I did the same thing on my first track day, left a nice trail of burnt rubber on turn 3 of Big Willow lol, I recovered pretty quickly but that was some scary shit. Haven't had any problems with it in 12k miles, that was at about 700miles.

So, what does one do when they accidentally find themselves at >8000rpm?

Depress the clutch as FAST as you can.

How do you even get it over 8k rpm? I've tried redlining the car when accelerating once in a while, and if I'm late on upshifting (~7500rpm), the car will automatically slow down itself, like a safety function that kicks in. Am I the only one this has happened to?

By misshifting. The car's ECU can't prevent an overrev due to direct mechanical linkage, so if you are going 100MPH and stuff it into second, bad things will happen.

Since we're on the topic, I accidentally went from 3rd to 2nd in my 350z at around 130 KM/H on an on ramp, I went sideways probably 4-5 times until I recovered, the amount of steering input I had to work was crazy, up to this day I think I was very lucky to save it.
