... when someone asks you if the car is fast, and your mind begins to find a way to steer the conversation to let them know the car is about the handling and feeling, and then you answer no, its not fast.

You know you own an FR-S when you always wave when you see other FR-S or BRZ drivers.

I usually answer "it isn't slow" or "it's fast enough" and then follow up with "the car is more about the fun in the twisties". I think everyone here knows that these cars are not stoplight warriors (unless you are running some sort of FI). I can never bring myself to answer "no" because I feel like I am saying it is "slow".

The other route is to merely state the car's horsepower and curb weight and then let them do the mental math to come to their own conclusion.

Before owning this car I have only seen motorcyclists do it, but, this is totally true.

most of the people i've encountered to stop and look and talk about my car seemed to not know much about it, and do seem to expect them to be stoplight warriors. unfortunately. so when these g27 owners and loud revving stangs keep asking me "is that fast bro?" answering anything other than no seems to give them the impression that its time to street race.

You know you own an FR-S when you have a movement perfected to get in and out the door.

Good call. Street racing is for people with low self esteem who feel that they have to justify their purchase at every opportunity. Don't even get into that mode. When you put it like that, telling them "no" is the best strategy. Circumstances definitely play a role in answering appropriately. I wasn't imagining a stoplight conversation, I was imagining just a conversation with a group of guys. Well played indeed - just defuse the situation.
