Brilliant idea.
This would let me have fun on the way up to the mountains before I hit the trails on my Yeti 575.

Good option for my race bike. Unfortunately not allowed in Germany.

Perfect! I really like the fabrication idea, I've been looking at fabbing up something similar this winter, but you made it even more simple. I'm using a Thule system, so I'll have to fab some additional pieces to bolt the bike trays to, but the bare bar idea is great. It lends itself to other ideas some have mentioned (tire tray, extra cargo, etc).
For anyone interested in using this idea for other things, Yakima makes standalone clips that bolt around their round bars, you could use them to attach nearly anything. http://yakima.com/shop/rack-systems/accessories |

Although it looks like it might take a bit of effort to set up, I like it. Best solution for bike carrying I've seen for these cars.

IDK, I mean you can make the bars as long as you want but keep in mind the further you go away from the car the more stress you put on the bumper and bumper shocks. Quote:
I have no idea. I have driven this setup up at 80mph on the highway and didn't notice anything out of the ordinary. That is awesome but probably not!!! |

Love this design.
I have a design at a machinist now which will work best with the roof rack option from 1UP USA. If anyone is interested, I'll have 2 sets left over after manufacturing that will be available. Roughly $100 for a set was what I was told.
