Ah okay, that's rough - knowing it's there but not being able to drive it would drive me insane.

120km. Got is Friday 28 December. By the way. I dont see an Africa thread on run in. Dealer told me the car is run in at factory bla bla bla. I didnt think twice and although not hooligan I have gunned her a couple of times. Now I see/read 1600km 4k RPM etc... Thing is car had 16km on the clock when I drove her off the floor so who knows what the staff did when they went to go "put in some fuel"...? Any way suppose its not that big a deal right?

Welcome and congrats on your purchase.
Here are some issues guys have had, which has been reported due to pushing the car for long periods before the 1600km.
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22704 there are also threads on the main forum under warranty issues.
It has been recommended to let your car warm up before driving off, for how long it is not indicated, then stick to the 1600km taking it easy and checking your oil. Take note about the oil to be used!!
Enjoy.

Thanks yes saw the oil threads... Will keep an eye on the oil and take it easier for the next 1500 km. I have however always made sure the temp needle is where it should be before even getting on the highway... Do you think complete oil change is required before first scheduled service at 15k? If Toyota dont recommend to bring it in for oil change then the run in theory also doesnt make that much sense...? Any way will take it easier...

Toyota have not been able to confirm what oil is supplied from manufacturer, which it is believed to be 0w20. I did a oil and filter change at 7000km to the 5w30 recommended for SA for my own piece of mind.
I am finding the engine a lot smoother and even the gear change easier from 1st to 2nd, which may be due to wearing in.
There is no need to change oil until 15k.

I'm also curious regarding the 1st to 2nd gear change as mine seems to be somewhat inconsistent - it feels tight going into 2nd in normal driving from time to time and when the weather is cooler. When driven "enthusiastically" it seems to be less noticeable.

Not sure if I got the Friday/Monday gearbox with dodgy syncromesh. I also noted that when the tyres are at the correct pressure the gear change is notably smoother. And before you question my driving know that I am used to cars with poor synchromesh... Maybe the gearbox is still tight or the oil is questionable? Anyone else noticed this? or do I start the warranty claim process at the first service in about 4 months or so?

Why not try oil change, made a difference for me!! Will set you back about R600 if you leave your filter in or R900 if you change both.

Let me cough up the insurance excess first and get my baby looking right first me thinks.

Filter should always be changed with an oil change - in my books that is critical.
