Most people will beat on the demos...they felt certain they were going to have to order a car so they drove in a style they would enever consider in the first 1000 miles of owning their personal vehicle.

If you can get it for the $20k range and you're not going to come on here complaining about the car quality in 3 months then sure but I have my doubts they'll go that low.

Then again the abuse I put those Focus ST's through on that small autocross course makes me wonder.

The demo car that I drove at my dealer was thoroughly thrashed, salesperson "warmed up" the car for me by repeatedly redlining it =_=" When I went to the parts department and mentioned I drove a simliar 86 to the demo one, the guy behind the counter told me the demo had been driven by EVERYONE (thats about 30 or so employees). They still managed to sell it for full price, go figure.

Unless you can get a significant discount on it/warranty extension etc or just don't care, you shouldn't bother.

Maybe for $20k and a extended warranty free of charge.

But for $24k? I wouldn't even call that a discount...especially with 2k miles.

Thank god you're not in California, salesmen must be on meth...

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd/3453624650.html
3000+ miles and asking nearly $30k

Also "certified pre-owned" for $29K
http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd/3455610930.html

Those two are new, I was looking for another one with 6,000 miles I saw last week and seems to be gone.

So far this is the only 6sp one in the area. They have a blue auto too. There's also a white auto at the next closest dealer. Bleh.

Trying to draw this out closer to the end of the year to build some more pressure in my favor.

I work at a dealer, only demo you want to get from one is anything but a sports car. And only a demo driven by the GM because he's responsible like that.

I drive my car like a demo car every day. For 20 grand I'd take that one.

This may be true. But what is a dealership demo? Is this a car used by Scion to train the dealers? Those cars are also beat to hell. The only reason to buy a new car is because its new. It may be a good deal but I would be very very skeptical but thats me, I distrust everything.

I'm used to driving 100k plus BMWs. I bought an e30 with 330k on it for $500 and DD'd is for a few months before flipping it and buying an '89 convertible with a dead odometer.

Newest car I've ever had is my '03 330i I got with 50k on the clock. It's now at 150k and I'm through with it.

My M3 I know was beat. I replaced about everything under that car, including installing a sway bar that was not even there (drag racing anyone?).

Granted these are used cars, heavily used, but still...they were well used, I have no idea of history, etc. No warranty. I pay out of pocket for things that go wrong.

Way I see it is, I've got about 5 years/34,000 miles to enjoy the car, then trade up a one owner to a new one before the warranty goes out. Something goes wrong, it'll be powertrain (most likely, since that's what took the "beatings") and it'll be covered. I'm not planning on modding the car. I actually like it the way it is.

I just wanted to run my game plan by those who had just went through the same dealer game. I've only ever bought one car from a "dealer" and they were an indie BMW shop. I beat them down from $25k to $20k on the 330i 6 years ago. Pretty much, if this is a feasible course of action this go round, I'll do it again.

When I was looking for a car 6 years ago I was checking out an '07 WRX TR. Beat them down from $26k to $21, but then I drove the BMW and walked.
