i don't expect him to have any info. i plan only to talk about pre-ordering as well as availibility/price issues once the car is officially launched in Australia. Quote:

I've put down $1000 with southside toyota at woolloongabba. This is fully refundable if I am not satisfied. They've called it an "option to buy". I need to make sure that it can fit two car seats for a 3 & 6 year old in the back...

Regarding finance, friggen Renault are offering 2.9% finance on a good portion of their consumer-based range. Now if Toyota can't move more units of the 86 than ANY Renault, then I might as well kill myself now because there's no hope for humanity.

Renault unfortunately needs this to shift stock. they don't do this for Renaultsport models tho.
on the other hand, 86 isn't Toyota's volume seller. in theory they don't need to offer 3.9%. |

According to his sale's staff, internal rumours (he stresses rumours) between dealers and Toyota Aus suggest the 86 will be offered in two spec levels. The basic spec will be released on June 8 for around 35k + on road costs, while the premium fully-loaded spec will be released by August for 40-42k + on road costs... |

That's pretty much as expected. Not too bad with the base I must say but 42k + Orc is a bit high....

My logical guess is the base spec will be similar to the Scion FR-S version announced, while the premium spec will be similar to the Japanese press cars. If the extra 7k differences buys you LED DRL's, sportier rims, climate con, smart entry/start, leather, touch screen audio, bigger exhaust and spoiler then I'm up for it. I personally can't stand the Scion's non LED headlights; it cheapens the car's entire appearance. Not a performance factor I know, but it's probably going to be the deciding factor for me to cough up the extra dough. |

Hrmm interesting... although that said, of the extra's being batted around I'd only want climate control and smart entry... if they're not offering any performance benefits I think there might be a few people like myself thinking asking 7 grand for purely cosmetic stuff might be a bit naff on a sport car. I must admit though, I don't really know how toyota do their spec levels. Is it normally just extra fluff on the same car like, or is it like nissan, where a different spec means the car has a bunch of different go-fast bits tucked into it?
Thanks for posting the info! |

Also, I don't think a 7k difference is likely. I think the Rukus is a good example of what they're likely to do with the 86 in terms of options as it's a low volume seller at a similar price point:
Everything from lock nuts, to kayak carriers, to TRD shift knobs, to GPS nav units are all dealer options. On a lot of cars these days, spoilers are on that list of dealer fitted options too. To be honest I haven't kept up with the differences between JDM specs. Having said that I think the only difference between our specs are going to be in air-con (standard or climate control), maybe some minor upholstery tweaks, audio upgrade (not necessarily headunit), HID's and LED running lights. Maybe a bigger set of wheels is likely too, but there'll be more options for this available from dealers since they're so easy to change. One big deciding cost factor is probably going to be the choice between manual and auto. To me, low spec in manual compared to high spec with auto is the only way that we might see a 7k difference. There'd probably only be around a 4k difference in trim specs but the choice between manual and auto might change things by up to 3k. EDIT: Like the Rukus compared to the Scion xB, I think we're likely to see a lot of more premium items on the base model. Because Toyota AU aren't going to shift as many units and would have a much higher floor price due to amortisation on homologation, they're going to have to release it with a few extra bits at cost to add a bit of value in. |
