oh bC works I think. it's simple and fits Scion's rest of the line, but I'm fine with FR-S as well.

what about:

hR : hachi roku

tL: Trueno/Levin : Thunder/Lightning

I don't think these are very good, but it was fun to brain storm

yes he did.

"You may be asking yourself… why did Scion stray away from the traditional naming convention?
Well… why not?! Scion’s never been about convention… We’re always looking to be different.

And this car is SO MUCH DIFFERENT than anything Scion has in its lineup…it deserves to stand out."

Does FR-S "currently" stand for Front-Engined/RWD/Sport? or Future/RWD/Sport (Future like with the FT-86) or something else?

Is it just a coincidence that the FT-86 and FR-S started with an F?

It'll be FRS.

How I know this is not what he or she said, or what was announced....its a very simple rule actually:

Its something awesome they have in Japan for their cars, so the U.S. gets boned. Simple as that.

Scion FR86
Scion 86

etc., I'd take any variation of that over FRS. But le-sigh. Looks like 86 steering wheel conversions and the boxer 86 fender logo will become enthusiast trademarks, just like JDM zenki/kouki bumpers for the AE86.....and the Trueno/Levin marked rain visors for the doors...and the Trueno/Levin marked small door moldings, etc.

Yeah you guys are right. But I still see it as Jack referring to the concept. They trademarked the concept "just in case" but they could have trademarked other names too. Toyota also renewed the Supra trademark but there are no official announcements on that. And I believe we saw trademarks in UK and Australia for "86" but it won't be called 86 in those markets (it's GT86) so trademarking =/= final name but it is a good indicator. And if it is called the FR-S it better have the curves and tail lights by Five-Axis and come in Code Red paint because that's the image burned into my memory when I think of the term FR-S.

On the brainstormed names...
tL is Acura );
FR86 sounds awesome but kind of redundant in what it stands for.
hR ...nice.
Scion 86 I want. The generic steering badge might be solely to cover up of the "86" logo and not for swappability of logos? Those brochure leaks didn't have any clear badge shots inside or out IIRC.

Well, whatever they call it, I just hope we'll be able to buy those sweet 86-piston badges. If it's called anything other than GT86, I'll be de-badging it and putting on JDM badges.

Ok you guys got it

Seems like it will be FRS and probably not FR-S per Moto Miwa's facebook post.

There are many things WE do not see, and though we are a group representing and conserving the AE86 and the 4AG and spirits and feelings that embody a product and its history, our view for a product launch may be very skewed in light of all other things that take place for product naming.

Just think of it this way, in the Western world, some of us name our grand-kid, and sons, by the names of their ancestors, like Grandfather Bob, and the grandchild Bob Junior. If you pare the 86 name or Hachiroku reference down to its core reasons, its just that. Many people have different reasons to love it or hate it, but the basic idea for the person who named him, is to give him a legacy to look back, to aspire to the same lifetime of good things about the man who lived before him. In the same sense, to hope, that the FT86 now named "86" to hope that the new generation, however different his lifetime may be in a different era and a different world, to carry the same spirit, and to always remind others and himself that there was something before it, that influenced the way of its existence.

Toyota GT86, 86, FRS, FT-86, or Subaru BRZ. It's here, its born, and like a baby with many hopes for the future, can't we just settle on unconditional love for it and raise it, shape it, and influence its growth the way we all feel fit.

It's a birthday on Wednesday, November 30th.

Just be happy for a while, and celebrate it.

If folks at Toyota and Subaru are collectively the fathers of BRZ/FRS/86 sibling, we are the buddy uncle, who will take them to baseball games, fishing trips, pick him up when he's down, push him when he starts to ride a bike, and be the mentor, where dads fall short. We all have such uncles or godfathers no?

we need to stop being the drunken uncle cussing and picking at every fault a kid may have in his youth, and try to guide him...so he can be a hero one day, a home run hitter, a sweeper at 4th bat.

I'm sure you all have voices for this very reason, but he's just a kid. A very anticipated one in the steps of a giant hero, he is here to replace. A lot of expectations... Its our role to help him become great, just like his great uncles, the Levin, Trueno, and Corolla GT-S in the AE86 years, and great Legacy in his Impressa-ive lives before him, 2000GT, Supra, Celica, S800, and many military accredited cousins like the WRC Celica, Impreza, TF102, TS020, 88C~92C, and Toyota 7, and movie stars like 2000GT convertible.

Happy Birthday, and welcome to the world [Toyota] 86, BRZ, and FRS.
Had my hopes up since the rest of the world got a new name.
