When I traded in my MX-5 for the FR-S, I felt the new car's interior was very baggy and spacious when I compared what I had gotten used to.
Truth is that I don't think I'd want my personal sports car to be any bigger than the FR-S... Space and versatility are plentiful in this car... Well, it depends on how one looks at it. I'm extremely thankful it has the back seats, and there rarely is a day where I don't use them for my infant and 4 year old.

You have to put the seats down to bang in this car... I mean if you and your girl (or guy depending on your sex or orientation..) are bigger than a set of wheels/tires, then there's another underlying issue..

But if that is the case then you can do some free weight reduction for the car. |

You know I find this thread quite funny because being 5'4 at 110lbs I thought the car was huge and intimidating. You know how much I had to pump the seat just to get it at a comfortable height???

Going from an NA Miata to the FRS - you sit down and notice the greater range of seat motion, much wider interior, and more headroom. Then you turn around and go "this thing's got a rear seat too?!!".
. Seriously - going from a 2 seater with no extra space inside to a 2 door 2+2 is night/day difference. |

This car isn't small -- it's that all other cars are way too big!

^^^ This, this, a million times this!!! It seems like cars over the years have been growing faster than American waistbands. I remember when Mustangs felt tight, light, and lithe... but nowadays they feel like a two-door bastard child of a Lincoln Towncar and a pickup truck. And don't even get me started on the NC Miatas in comparison to the first two gens. Same goes for Civics, Focuses... pretty much every car on the road. I guess manufacturers can't afford the bad press of reviewers pointing out if a car gets smaller between generations; easier to just move them further up the food chain (like how the Fiesta replaced the Focus as Ford's entry-level econobox).

Definitely my SW20 MR2 feels more compact that the 86 but I'm fine with the size of the 86. Looking in the mirrors at the wider rear arches reminds me of driving a 911 to a degree

I have two classic Mini's and one thing I can tell you, they are massively spacious in comparison! My old 2000 Corolla RXI twincam was a limosine in comparison to both though...
But the 86 is by far the widest car I've ever owned! |
